Troyes Holiday Homes

Make a holiday rental home or chateau in Troyes, France your home away from home. Troyes, France

Being a medium-large French settlement of over 63,000 people and dating back to the Roman times, Troyes is a name that many foreign visitors have already heard of – yet it is only in more recent times that the town has gained popularity as a holiday destination. The capital of the Aube department has it all, being a thriving hub of art and culture that also has a cosmopolitan air about it as well as a delightful medieval centre.

Things to do in Troyes, France

Despite a raging fire destroying much of the old town of Troyes back in 1524, some parts of this medieval quarter – such as a number of 16th century half-timbered houses - still remain today, and the narrow, cobbled streets of this area are a great place to start exploring the centre of the town. Churches can be found in their numbers, and structures such as Troyes Cathedral are arguably some of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in the country. Art museums, of both the modern and historical variety can also be found their droves, so there is plenty to keep everyone occupied.

There is more to Troyes than art and culture though, and many visitors come here to shop. The famous fashion company Lacoste base themselves in the town, and some bargains can be had on a range of fashion items and accessories. Food shops, cafe-bars and restaurants are also in good supply, and self-caterers are generally well looked-after.

The countryside that surrounds Troyes is the place to head if you are seeking to escape the crowds, and is a particularly green landscape that is dotted with forests, fields and vineyards. This is the heart of champagne country, and sampling a few glasses of the famous sparkling white wine is an absolute must.

Places to visit on holiday in Troyes, France

The advent of high-speed trains means that Paris is within day-trip reach from Troyes, and many visitors here like to spend at least a day or two in the capital. If you would rather stick closer to your base, however, there are many other options to pursue, with most of the Aube department reachable within an hour when travelling by car.

Weather in Troyes, France

Troyes’ best weather and greatest levels of tourist activity at the same time, during the period between late May and early September. Although sweltering temperatures of above 30°C are uncommon even during the height of summer, plenty of sunshine and warm weather can still be had throughout this period. Rainfall remains constant throughout most of the year.

Travel to Troyes, France

Troyes has its own airport, which is located 2km outside of the town centre, and is officially known as Troyes – Barberey Airport (QYR). Direct flights from the UK to this destination can be scarce though, and a common option is to fly to Paris and get a connecting flight, drive or take public transport for the remainder of the journey.

A lovely house, beautifully furnished rooms, very welcoming and hospitable.

5 of 5
The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and house had a very ambient atmosphere. We were able to relax and enjoy the comfort of the room, the very satisfying breakfast, the swimming pool and the pool table. We were able to use the poolside bbq and fridge space in the hosts' kitchen as well as other facilities. The nearby town of Troyes had plenty to offer by way of interesting sites, restaurants and shops as well as large out of town outlet stores. The Champagne region has many fascinating places to visit including lakes and forests in close proximity to Villa la Croix. During our two week stay we met many other people who were stopping off for a night or two and all seemed to thoroughly enjoy their stay.

Great location!

5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay at this lovely apartment. Typically French in style, it is clean and comfortable with everything you need for a home away from home. Sabine and Francois made us feel very welcome and were easily contactable for any queries or concerns, although this was not needed, as they explained everything very fully. The location is perfect for exploring the beautiful city of Troyes. Everything is within easy walking distance - the amazing architecture, the churches with their beautiful stained glass windows, art galleries, museums, shops, cafes and restaurants. The cathedral is also close by. The spiral staircase to reach the apartment on the second floor, was easily manageable. The only slight negative is parking. There are several free parking spaces directly outside the apartment, but they are not allocated and often there was no available space. However, a large underground car park is very close by and, compared with city car parks in England, is very cheap. It is also very secure. I would definitely recommend this property.

Everything fantastic!

5 of 5
In short, as soon as we left for home we wanted to turn around and go back! Christine was the most wonderful host. She went out of her way to help us and was very kind and warm throughout our entire stay. The house itself was beautiful and had everything we needed. The pool (goes without saying) was a godsend! The location was fantastic too. A 5 minute walk to Intermache (supermarket) and the McArthur Glen shopping galore! Also, it was only a 5 minute walk to the bus stop that takes you straight into the centre of Troyes for only 1Euro35. Troyes itself is amazing. Christine recommended a pizzeria called “Giusepinos”. It was bursting with customers everytime we went which just shows how good the pizza’s are! Best pizza I’ve ever had in France! Thanks again to Christine! We wandered off to Montgueux one day too to find a champagne vineyard when we stumbled across Beaugrand champagne. Again, a great find and only a 20 minute pleasant drive away. Overall, this was the best holiday we could have hoped for. 110% recommend to everyone and a HUGE thank you to Christine! Emily and Alex
