Troyes Holiday Homes

Make a holiday rental home or chateau in Troyes, France your home away from home. Troyes, France

Being a medium-large French settlement of over 63,000 people and dating back to the Roman times, Troyes is a name that many foreign visitors have already heard of – yet it is only in more recent times that the town has gained popularity as a holiday destination. The capital of the Aube department has it all, being a thriving hub of art and culture that also has a cosmopolitan air about it as well as a delightful medieval centre.

Things to do in Troyes, France

Despite a raging fire destroying much of the old town of Troyes back in 1524, some parts of this medieval quarter – such as a number of 16th century half-timbered houses - still remain today, and the narrow, cobbled streets of this area are a great place to start exploring the centre of the town. Churches can be found in their numbers, and structures such as Troyes Cathedral are arguably some of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in the country. Art museums, of both the modern and historical variety can also be found their droves, so there is plenty to keep everyone occupied.

There is more to Troyes than art and culture though, and many visitors come here to shop. The famous fashion company Lacoste base themselves in the town, and some bargains can be had on a range of fashion items and accessories. Food shops, cafe-bars and restaurants are also in good supply, and self-caterers are generally well looked-after.

The countryside that surrounds Troyes is the place to head if you are seeking to escape the crowds, and is a particularly green landscape that is dotted with forests, fields and vineyards. This is the heart of champagne country, and sampling a few glasses of the famous sparkling white wine is an absolute must.

Places to visit on holiday in Troyes, France

The advent of high-speed trains means that Paris is within day-trip reach from Troyes, and many visitors here like to spend at least a day or two in the capital. If you would rather stick closer to your base, however, there are many other options to pursue, with most of the Aube department reachable within an hour when travelling by car.

Weather in Troyes, France

Troyes’ best weather and greatest levels of tourist activity at the same time, during the period between late May and early September. Although sweltering temperatures of above 30°C are uncommon even during the height of summer, plenty of sunshine and warm weather can still be had throughout this period. Rainfall remains constant throughout most of the year.

Travel to Troyes, France

Troyes has its own airport, which is located 2km outside of the town centre, and is officially known as Troyes – Barberey Airport (QYR). Direct flights from the UK to this destination can be scarce though, and a common option is to fly to Paris and get a connecting flight, drive or take public transport for the remainder of the journey.

Perfect hosts, perfect property in a lovely quiet location

5 of 5
5 stars in every way, could not fault anything. The hosts were amazing and very welcoming. Breakfast was excellent and our dog was welcome. The room is decorated to an amazing standard and I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a break, away from it all in beautiful surroundings. Very conveniently located, a few miles from the motorway but in the middle of a small hamlet in the French countryside. Thank you Valerie and Laurent ... The perfect hosts.
