Make a holiday rental apartment or villa in Tremolat, France your home away from home

The charming little village of Tremolat lies on a wide meander of the Dordogne River. Set among the vineyards and pre-historic sites of Perigord Noir, Tremolat is a wonderfully hospitable village, which could not be anywhere but the heart of the French countryside.

Things to do in Tremolat, France

There are some notable sights to explore in the village of Tremolat, France. The dramatic church tower of St Nicholas’ Church and the quaint St Hilaire’s Church are both worth visiting, but it is the 17th century gabare boats on the Tremolat Lake which are of most interest to most visitors. There are some lovely boat trips to be enjoyed on these old boats too. The River Dordogne is a fantastic fishing river, and sitting on the banks, soaking in the atmosphere, scenery and sun cannot be beaten. The banks of the Dordogne in the Tremolat region are easily accessible on foot, allowing visitors to Tremolat accommodation wonderful days of walking along the banks with a fishing rod. Fishing permits for the Dordogne are easily obtained from the town hall and many local tabacs. The vineyard adorned Dordogne Valley is also a fine walking, mountain biking and horse riding area, with blissful trails running along the banks of the river, as well as into the woodland covered hills that surround the village. Perigord Noir is known for its peaceful walking routes through timeless vineyards, medieval villages and beautiful woodlands, and the number of exquisitely ornate yet imposing chateau that adorn the hilltops make it one of the finest places to walk in peace. The slightly more traditional events of the Easter fete and second hand fairs on the third Sunday of each month are both great fun to get involved with.

Places to visit on holiday in Tremolat, France

The staggering village of Domme, or the ‘Acropolis of the Perigord’, is an amazing village to explore, filled with remarkable buildings built along the cliffs of a large limestone plateau in the Dordogne countryside. Taking the time to visit Dromme from Tremolat accommodation is well worth it, even if you only have time to sit in one of their restaurants taking in the scenery from your table.

Weather in Tremolat, France

The summer sees temperatures reaching an average of 30°C, with daily peaks in the mid 30’s daily from June until late September. The river beaches of the Dordogne are impossible to ignore during the summer months, and in autumn, the grape harvest comes in and the mild weather means autumn is a fantastic time to visit a self catering Tremolat property.

Travel to Tremolat, France

Bergerac Airport (EGC) is the closest to a self catering Tremolat holiday rental. Bergerac is served directly from the UK with flights arriving from Gatwick (LGW), Birmingham (BHX), Manchester (MAN), Bristol (BRS) and Southampton (SOU). There are a good choice of airlines providing services too, including British Airways, easyJet and Flybe. Simply Perfect!

Great holiday property, a (very) short walk from the shops, restaurants and Sunday Market in St-Cyprien. Well furnished throughout, and kept in very good order and very clean. We hope to return soon! Thank you! Nick and Nina

Perfect hosts, perfect holiday

5 of 5
We chose the Butterfly Cottage for a relaxing break after a busy year getting married and moving house. We couldn't have made a better choice. Linda and George's (and Roosevelt's!) hospitality was second to none - they were integral to ensuring our stay was as enjoyable as possible. As we're keen bikers, the weather during the week was perfect - sunny and around 24 degrees and we managed to clock up over 160km during the course of our holiday. The bike rides themselves were fantastic thanks to George who plotted the routes using his local knowledge of the area. We can particularly recommend the ride which took us past a number of beautiful chateaus. The pool and jacuzzi were perfect for unwinding after a long day on the bikes - and the heated pool is a real luxury in mid September! Another highlight of the week was Dmitri, the local chef who came to cook for us one evening. We both agree that it was the best meal we've ever had (and that's including Michelin starred restaurants!) - my soufflé and scallop starter was delicious, and the apple tart dessert simply divine! Dmitri is a must for anyone staying at the Butterfly Cottage - you won't regret it! We can't wait to return in the near future. Sophie & Doug

Lovely peaceful rural spot

4 of 5
Had a lovely stay at the gite in Paunat, although it isnt really in Paunat, it is between Tremolat and Paunat! Basic little place but more than adequate. The people who own it are friendly and helpful although you don't see much of them. Do not go if you do not like cats and dogs as you will get visits from both. We had the place to ourselves for 4 weeks apart from the last night when a family moved in next door. Not sure how peaceful it would be in high season!! Our only gripe is the lack of contact with Homeaway - unless you are prepared to download the app, but we were not! We wanted to ask questions prior to arrival about what was available bedding wise so we knew what to take with us. We never got a response, and ended up taking a lot of stuff we didnt actually need - frustrating! However this was not the fault of the owners, it was Homeaway who carry our their business too remotely in our opinion. This is a lovely part of France with lots to see, beautiful scenery and great weather, even in October!!!
