Things to do in Tourouzelle, France

The village’s main activity is wine making, with three separate vineyards within walking distance of the centre of the village. Each offers tours and wine tasting sessions, meaning that you can ensure you know which your favourite wine is before heading into one of Tourouzelle’s restaurants for your evening meal. The wide, sandy Mediterranean beaches that grace the front covers of holiday brochures for the area are just a 40 minute drive from a self catering Tourouzelle villa too. The beaches are ideal for simply stretching out your towel and resting your head for a few hours, as well as sailing, windsurfing and fishing breaks. There are some fantastic seaside resorts along the coast, filled with water sports centres of the highest quality for both equipment hire and tuition, in English if preferred. Just three miles from a holiday rental in Tourouzelle is the Canal du Midi, the world famous UNESCO accredited canal, which dates back to the 1600’s. Wonderfully picturesque and delightfully peaceful, the Canal du Midi is a great place to walk, fish and kayak.

Wonderful

Stayed here for 4 weeks in June, what can I say. Christine and Guy were extremely friendly and nothing was any trouble. We felt looked after. The apartment was great with everything we needed, with a lovely terrace, great bathroom and modern kitchen. We will definitely be coming back for another stay

Well equiped gite, clean, best for couples and most importantly dog friendly

4 of 5
Well equiped and clean gite, for our taste a bit dark and we missed having an outdoor space with a view. There is a walled-in terrace at the back, good for meals. We had brought our topper for the double bed and I am glad I did, the matrass is quite hard, but then I do have a bad back. Also bring your own entertainment, there is no tv, so if you do fancy a night in, that is something to be considered, the couches need replacing. On a positive note, its dogfriendly, the owners are really lovely, we went with them to a wine bar (check it out, its in siran, very nice food) they do live upstairs and work from home, so if you want complete peace and quite and being on your own, please take that into account. So all in all to sum it up, the price of this gite refelects the minor ‘negative’ things we found. Its a perfect place for visiting the black mountains, in Minerve do book an outside table in relais chantovent, not cheap but worth it. We cycled many of the voie vert, canal du midi, in the pyrenees, but our favorite was at the top of the black mountains around Olargues which was very pretty. Ofcourse carcassonne is a must, go early in the morning, massive crowds otherwise. There are many pretty lakes around too, from Olargues you can follow the 3 or 4 lake route, bring a picnic. I did miss having an information book in the gite, where people have written recommendations and their experiences. It normally is our guide to a new area, indeed you can asked the proprietors, but sometimes getting first hand tourist information is invaluable. So all in all, it was a pleasant stay, we loved the area and will return to the mid-pyrenees since there is much to explore. Thanks Philippe for allowing our bikes to be stored in his garage, (your car will be parked onto the road) and all the delicious goodies and Sylvies hospitality. (Philippe and Sylvie speak english).
