A gorgeous gite with great views

5 of 5
From the minute we arrived Wendy and Dave, the owners, and their two dogs Archie and Eric, made us feel welcome. The gite was in a lovely setting with views to a chateau at the front and the Dordogne at the back. The pool which was exclusive to ourselves was set up everyday for us though we only used it once due to travelling around and the occasional inclement weather. Our dog Max was free to roam as the land was securely enclosed. There were also several dog walks through woods directly from the house. The gite was very comfortable with great beds, a good shower and an extensive library of books. As the first night was chilly, Dave set up the log burning fire for us - a warming treat. We were also treated to an extensive welcome pack consisting of bread, butter, cheese, eggs, bottled water and a lovely bottle of Bordeaux. Dave had also made us a brilliant shepherds pie for our first night - we scoffed the lot! During the week Wendy and Dave invited us to a barbecue on the verandah of their wonderful house. We had a great night. (Sorry again about the tomato Wendy!) The gite is ideally located for touring the Charente and the Dordogne and we spent a lot of time driving around looking at villages as it is our intention to retire to France. Thanks Wendy and Dave for an excellent week - we hope to see you again in the future.
