Although the village of Tizzano is tiny, it has an interesting history. Visit the ruins of the 15th century fort to the northwest of the village. During WWII it was used to train a team of secret agents and Corsican patriots in attack and defence.

Places to Visit Around Tizzano, Corsica
This mediaeval town is 62 km southeast of holiday cottages in and is the oldest town in Corsica. Visit the 9th century citadel and the elegant harbour which shows Italian influences. The town is situated on top of sheer cliffs and has many tall houses which line the elegant palm-tree lined streets.
Ajaccio is the capital of Corsica and its main claim to fame is that is was the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. Visitors can visit his home, explore the National Bonaparte Museum and see the caves where he played as a child. The 16th century citadel and the Renaissance Cathedral are both well worth visiting. Finish the day exploring the winding streets which are lined with cafés and shops.
Sartene is in the far southwest of Corsica, high in the mountains and is famous for producing the excellent local Sartene wine. Visit the Sainte Marie Church in the main Place de la Liberation. Checkout the tall houses built from local rock and see how they are linked by arches, staircases and narrow passageways.
