Make a holiday rental in Thezac, France your home away from home

Thezac holiday accommodation is set in the Lot-et-Garonne department of France’s Aquitaine region, towards the southwest of the country. It’s found in a part of the country known for its scenic countryside, home to vineyards, rolling hills and numerous attractive old towns with beautiful architecture.

Things to do in Thezac, France

Thezac self-catering holiday rentals are set moments from the beautiful town of Tournon d’Agenais, which sits on a hilltop and dates back to the 13th Century when it was established as a Bastide town. It’s still partially enclosed by its original defences, with one route to the old town taking you under a medieval gate, and the square at the heart of the town is especially attractive. An important historical site set very close to your holiday destination is the Chateau de Fumel, which is recognised as an historic monument and was constructed as a vital stronghold for the area during the 100 years war between Britain and France. Much of the building today dates to the 1400s and 1700s, but perhaps the main attraction here is the grounds, which boast some truly beautiful gardens. In the immediate vicinity you could head off an a little adventure to explore the stunning rural landscapes that surround holiday homes in Thezac. There are hills and extensive woodland, great for hikes, bike rides and horseback riding. There’s also lots of farmland here, with sprawling vineyards and vibrant sunflower fields. Puy-l’veque, another pretty village, sits around 10 kilometres away, and is home to Chateau from the 1300s, as well as a tower from the 1200s at its heart. On the hill overlooking the town are the remnants of the original medieval stronghold.

Places to visit on holiday in Thezac, France

Thezac holiday accommodation is around 25 kilometres from Monflaquin, officially one of France’s most beautiful villages and well worth the drive. It was here that the Black Prince resided for a period during the 100 Years War, and you can still see the house he stayed in.

Winters are cool, but not excessively cold, with maximum temperatures reaching between five and ten degrees during the day.

What a unique property in the vineyards of the South of France

5 of 5
This gite is located in the heart of the Cahors region of Southern France and set in the middle of a vineyard. It consists of an open plan kitchen and diner, going through to a lounge, off of which comes the large main bedroom and a large bathroom with a free standing bath and large shower which is open rather than enclosed. There is a smaller attic room accessed up some steep wooden steps in the lounge, which contains a large skylight window. The gite is truly authentic and in keeping with other typical French buildings in the area. It is located within an enclosed courtyard and is attached to a restaurant and an on site pottery painting cafe is located across the courtyard. There is absolutely no noise at all from the restaurant during opening hours therefore it caused us no concern. The final building located just off the enclosed courtyard is the owners home, Chas and Caroline, who manage the gite, restaurant and pottery cafe. They are extremely helpful and very informative about the local area. When we discovered a couple of issues within the gite, they immediately rectified these and supplied us with a few additional utensils for the kitchen that made our self catering holiday easier. The private garden to the rear of the gite is extensive and there is not only an enclosed private pool for your use, there is also some play items if you are going with children and there is plenty of outside seating options. There is also a garden dining table and 4 chairs located just outside the gite for some alfresco dining. Just to the side of the gite there is a beautiful seating area looking directly into the vineyard which can be accessed through the main bedroom patio doors. To the far side of the garden, there is a small holding which contains a couple of chickens and 2 very friendly goats, Rocky and Daisy. They love fruit peelings and lots of fuss so be sure to pay them a visit. Le Caillau is surrounded by many vineyards which are worth visiting, in particular Clos Triguedina which is a 1.5 mile walk from Le Caillau, the wine is exquisite and the tour both informative and interesting. Le Caillau Restaurant is simply a hidden gem and although we chose to only eat here once during our stay, the atmosphere, service and menu is a credit to Chas and Caroline. We holidayed here with another couple, no children and found plenty to do in the region, a car is essential to get further afield. PS...Do the pottery painting if you can, it’s great fun!!
