The department of Tarn et Garonne lies in the south west of France, in the Midi Pyrenees region. Carved into five distinct regions by the multiple rivers which cross the department, there is a holiday rental to suit every holiday maker.

Fishing on the rivers Tarn, Garonne and Aveyron are beautiful places to walk and fish. There are 1,400 km of fishable rivers in Tarn et Garonne, and numerous lakes too, although a fishing permit is required. With so much water in the department, there are of course many water based activities to enjoy from a Tarn et Garonne holiday rental gite.

Tarn et Garonne is mainly a rural region with a dispersed population, making it ideal for walking, horse riding and mountain biking. There are national walking trails marked across the countryside, from short strolls to major hikes, and there are plenty of options if you are looking to rent a holiday rental villa in Tarn et Garonne. The same goes for cycling and mountain biking, and bike hire is readily available.

There are limited golfing options from a Tarn et Garonne gite. There are many 9 hole golf courses around, but 18 hole courses are harder to find.

Places to holiday in Tarn et Garonne

In the north of the department consists of the Quercy Hills, a beautiful rural region dotted with small medieval towns, encircled by fortifications. Of special note is the town of Lauzerte, which is worth visiting if just to see the Roman apse and the beautiful church. It is a region of wine production and marvellous gastronomy.

The Gasgcogne Hills dominate the south of the department. In the south, golf and sailing on the large lakes take up many hours for holiday makers in a Tarn et Garonne holiday rental from April until November.

You cannot fail to be amazed by Gallo Roman village of Caylus, which clings to the rocky gorges of the Aveyron, with its long and intriguing history. You may recognise some of the scenery from the film “Charlotte Grey”.

St Antonin Noble Val is among the oldest settlements in this part of France, perfectly situated for exploration of the department on horseback, bicycle or on foot.

Wonderful house in a great location.

5 of 5
We stayed at Les Cerisiers for a month as a base for us to explore a previously unknown part of France. We could not have chosen better. We drove down in our Morgan and toured extensively during our stay. Saint Antonin Noble Val is the ideal base for exploring the area, we were almost overwhelmed by the beauty of the towns and villages and of course the local countryside. We also had guests staying with us for two separate weeks during our the month. The house was perfect for us with all of the facilities you would expect and some more besides. We particularly enjoyed the use of the bikes that were provided for our use and also the pool. Our guests were also very impressed with how well the house is fitted out. We would certainly have no hesitation in recommending the place. We did have a couple of small issues during our stay and these were dealt with immediately by the owners and manager so we can also say we received excellent customer service. The closeness to town enabling us to walk in on an almost daily basis suited us down to the ground. We visited a number of bars and restaurants and would highly recommend Auberge des Sens. We ate there three times and the food, wine and service were all excellent. You must walk in on Sunday morning to visit the weekly market the produce on offer is wonderful. We went every week. If you want to stay in town for lunch then you need to book as the place is packed.

Best place in all of Lauzerte

5 of 5
We fell in love with this property and the town of Lauzerte. We were in town with many other friends who stayed elsewhere and this house was the envy of all! The views from the balcony and the pool area oversee the entire town and the farm fields below. The house was clean and welcoming. The kitchen was stocked with everything needed to prepare meals of all kinds. We would stay here again without hesitation and I'm sure many of our traveling companions will also look to rent this lovely home. Thank you Marie Claire for making our first trip to France and Lauzerte so memorable.
