Ste Mondane, France

Ste Mondane – a shortened version of its full name of Sainte Mondane - is a commune of just 250 people that sits in the Dordogne department of Aquitaine, France. Located in an area known as the Perigord Noir, Ste Mondane lies just a few kilometres from the more visited tourist destination of Sarlat, yet retains a rural and secluded feel to it – making it a great option for families seeking a break from their busy lives back home.

The centre of Ste Mondane caters for the basic needs of any tourist or permanent resident, with a post office, bank, butcher, baker, chemist and several small food shops all to be found. Restaurants can also be found in the area, providing another option for the hassle-free meals.

Holidays in Ste Mondane are often about relaxing, and the stone houses and villas found in the village are the perfect place to do this away from the tourist crowds. The relaxing can take any form that a visitor desires, with some preferring to read around the pool, whilst others enjoy a glass of fine local wine under the summer sun.

Part of the attraction of staying in a semi-rural area is the possibility of walking or cycling to neighbouring villages to see what attractions they have to offer. Within close reach of Ste Mondane are a number of other communes that can be reached on two legs or two wheels, including St Julien de Lampon and Calviac en Perigord.

Should Have Booked For Longer

5 of 5
Spent a week at Mulberry Tree Villa and should have booked for longer. We were met with a friendly and warm welcome from Linda and George. We traveled with parents and teenage children. The villa was very clean, spacious and perfect for our stay. The little extras Linda provides are so thoughtful, fresh eggs, milk, coffee, orange juice, wines, toiletries, and even bathrobes for every one. Linda tries to think of everything and goes above and beyond to try and make your stay perfect. The pool was a perfect way to cool off and relax after a day out sightseeing, and the views are so relaxing and beautiful. Plenty of room inside and out, with two very large patios for everyone to relax, plus a beautiful garden with lots of swings and benches to relax and read a good book. We could not have asked for a better centrally located place to enjoy the Dordogne, everything is literally minutes away. Looking forward to hopefully returning for a longer stay!

Truly Amazing !

5 of 5
Located in an unspoilt village in the Dordogne, with gorgeous panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The Butterfly cottage is equipped with everything you could ever need. The owners came and greeted us and were continuously checking whether there was anything more they could do for us when we ran into them. If nothing else, stay in the cottage for the bed alone. It is one of the best nights sleep my husband and I have ever had vacationing! The location is perfect if you want a quiet, peaceful base from which to explore the rest of the Dordogne. We visited local villages and attractions, as well as going on local walks and hikes. We would also recommend Dimitri, the most amazing French Chef. The meal he prepared for us was absolutely superb, one of the great highlights of our trip. We can not say enough great things about the Butterfly Cottage that have not already been said by the many other great reviews! Truly amazing what Linda and George have created.
