We were terribly late in organising a holiday for our family of four this year, but with about 8 days to prepare we managed to book La Maison de Gé and swiftly booked Eurostar tickets with onward TGV to Avignon (about an hour away from the rental by car).
The rental is in the picturesque rural town of St. Chaptes within close proximity to the City of Nimes (about 20 minutes) and with easy access to supermarkets by way of a short drive. St. Chaptes also has a good local shop, Bakery, Butcher and Pharmacy all within walking distance of the rental.
The rental is absolutely perfect for small families with large open plan living/dining area, two double bedrooms, a small but well-appointed kitchen that is connected to the open plan living/dining room and a separate utility room, the average peak temperature during our stay was around 35 degrees but the villa itself is cool even before using the air conditioning. It is fitted out to a clean standard with all the necessary appliances you would need including a newly fitted bathroom.
The pool was a very decent size given the size of the accommodation, which is set within a very large but totally secluded garden.
The historic Roman city of Nimes was a 20 minute drive away, the beach of La Grande Motte was around an hour’s drive and Pont de Gare UNESCO world heritage Roman Viaduct was 40 minutes away.
We did have a few teething problems with appliance in the rental at the beginning and this was predictively because we were the first tenants of the season, but there was little to no inconvenience as once we contacted our host, Cécile, she arranged for the relevant engineers to come and fix the two problems and they were resolved swiftly, without issue.
Our host, Cécile, was extremely kind and just wanted us to enjoy our holiday, she left us fresh fruit and vegetables from her own garden and other local produce. There was a bit of difficulty in the language barrier with our host, as our French is poor to say the least but we managed to communicate most of the important things through email and text, thanks to modern translation apps!
I would highly recommend this rental to other families like us, as the rental itself is charming, has a private pool and secluded grounds within a rural town with good access to local historical sights and the coast is an hour away by car – as well as this the owners are kind and attentive and do have a family connection
Thanks - Tom & Fiona S.
Mamie Leone’s is a really charming place to stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our week living the vintage life. Prior to arrival we had been a bit concerned that the outdoor space would feel limited for two families (4 adults and 3 children) but the gated pool was perfect for us. The outdoor bar area really made the ‘grown ups’ feel like we were having a drink in a bar after the children had gone to bed.
The weather was unusually hot (even by the south of France standards) so the air con in the kids bedroom was essential. It would have been good to have the same downstairs or at least a fan in the bedrooms.
The accommodation is on the same road as an amazing artisan bakery which we visited every day. We stuggled with visiting some of the wineyards though as they didn’t appear to be open, this was a shame.
There are lots of lovely places to visit nearby. Our highlights were sightseeing in Anduze and kayaking/pedelo at The Camboux
Fabrice was very responsive to messages which we really appreciated.
