Make a holiday villa in Saint-Étienne-du-Grès your home away from home

Refinement and relaxation come together at Saint-Étienne-du-Grès holiday villas, and with HomeAway it’s easy to find the rental that has everything you need. Saint-Étienne-du-Grès holiday homes tend to be large, catering to families and groups seeking the comfort of private pools and expansive secluded gardens. Rentals here are traditional and authentic, with centuries-old architecture, and interiors bursting with character. During your holiday at a villa in Saint-Étienne-du-Grès you can see how world-class wine and olive oil are made, visit exquisite old villages and take in landscapes that have inspired some of history’s most famous painters.

Things to do

-Local sights. Minutes away is Baux-de-Provence, a village popular for its considerable beauty, elevated views and tumultuous history. Here you’ll see preserved architecture from the 1400s and 1500s, including churches and grand townhouses. Also from the 1400s is the imposing Chateau de Tarrascon, which sits next to the Rhône River just to the west of Saint-Étienne-du-Grès.

-Outdoor activities. In Les Alpilles Natural Park you can witness landscapes that have won many admirers down the years, among them the artist Vincent van Gogh. It has a blend of pine forest and terraced farmland, home to orchards, olive groves and vineyards, all beneath stark rocky peaks. On walks and bike rides you’ll come across old chapels and even the remnants of a Roman city at Glanum, just south of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.

-Roman Heritage. Saint-Étienne-du-Grès sits in the middle of an area packed with ancient history, boasting some of the finest structures in the former Roman world. In Arles and Nîmes see fabulous temples, aqueducts, amphitheatres and more. Nîmes’ Maison Carré, an intact temple, is a must-see. The Pont du Gard is another - it’s a fragment of a 50-kilometre-long, 2,000 year-old aqueduct, at this point crossing the Gardon River.

-Avignon. Outstanding among Avignon’s many postcard-worthy sights is the majestic Palace of the Popes. This UNESCO-listed building was the seat of western Christianity during the Catholic Schism, and saw five different popes in the 1300s. It’s also a prominent piece of Gothic architecture, with both a ceremonial and defensive role, evidenced by its battlements and towers.

-Food and drink. In recent years local wineries and olive mills have thrown open their doors to visitors for tours and tasting evenings. Some local wineries even offer short courses in Oenology, for those who want to understand every part of the winemaking process. When it comes to olive oil, the Baux Valley, covering 70% of the park, has an AOC label with 12 different olive mills and 350,000 individual trees.

Fantastic house and owner

5 of 5
We (3 adults and 2 children) enjoyed 3 weeks here in July 2016. It is a gorgeous house that is nicely restored in an authentic style, but also with a contemporary style bathroom. The garden is nice, quiet and old trees provides shade for the sun – just next to the pool. All the photos are accurate. The owner is extremely nice and attentive when needed – also with a fast reply to our questions before the stay. We can fully recommend staying here. The next time we are in this area we will definitely stay here.

A luxurious One in a Million Provencal 'Mas'

5 of 5
We arrived to a wonderfully updated country house with every amenity one could ever want when renting a vacation home. The house was large and beautiful, as were the grounds and surrounding town area. Wonderful pool (although we were a bit late in the season to take the plunge) and garden area. Very quiet, peaceful and French….with a British spin! The kitchen was fully functional and every tool needed to prepare and serve a gourmet meal was there. There was even a bountiful supply of spices, condiments and all those "little bits" one always forgets when renting a house on the road! The appliances were all new, as was the fit-out of the entire kitchen, plenty of space and storage. The lighting throughout the house was brilliant and all adjustable to the brightness needed, always a nice mood enhancer! The living and dining spaces were perfect and provided great options for community time, as well as great places to get away for a nap, a good read or just to be alone, inside or outside. The interior spaces are well decorated and accessorized in a comfortable, contemporary style that is very cool, and guaranteed to make anyone feel right at home. Very well done, right down to the stocked candy dish in the living room. Bedroom and bathrooms were equally as well thought out as the rest of the house. The rooms were large with beamed ceilings and very comfortable. A cleaning service came mid-week to freshen everything up. The beds were great and heating and cooling were a snap to operate. But, the truly best part of this rental was by far our hostess (owner), Sandra. In addition to the house rental, Sandra offers a personal concierge service (for an additional fee that was worth every euro) that made our trip just perfect! Upon our arrival, the kitchen was stocked with everything we had previously requested plus she had prepared a delicious dinner for our first evening! For the whole trip, Sandra's advice with directions and destination choices saved us so much time and energy, while also delivering us the "A+ list experience". From places to go, to the most amazing restaurants that no tourist would ever find, to the best wineries to visit and which local markets to see, Sandra hooked us up with reservations, addresses and phone numbers and tips to make it all really easy! Finally, this trip was a one in a million find for us! A great country, a great house, great food and wine….. all made possible by an extraordinary hostess! Thanks a million!
