Make a holiday rental gite or villa in St Cyprien, France your home away from home

It is hard to get deeper into the countryside of Perigord Noir than you are when staying in a holiday rental property in St Cyprien, Dordogne (not to be confused with the beach resort of St Cyprien, Languedoc-Roussillon). The ochre coloured village sits below the skyline, backed by woodland covered hills, and overlooking the water of the River Dordogne.

Things to do in St Cyprien, France

St Cyprien is a charming place to be. The village is absolutely timeless, with beautiful old villas lining the narrow, and often quite steep streets of the village. Without a car in sight, the rustic charm of St Cyprien is undeniable, and during the summer months, when the host of open air concerts, art-exhibitions and petanque competitions, the village really comes to life. There are also tennis courts, basket ball courts and mountain bike hire centres for your use.

The whole area is littered with historic gems, from extravagant chateaux to roman chapels, medieval castles to pre-historic caves. These, combined with the beautiful landscapes of the area mean that people flock from across Europe to St Cyprien properties for walking, horse riding and mountain biking holidays. There are a huge network of local trails and paths, as well as two national walking routes which run past the village. One of the best ways to get a full view of the region is from the air, and although this might sound a little extravagant, there are some great chances to take a hot air balloon flight from St Cyprien.

After a long day exploring the countryside or gently paddling the course of the River Dordogne in a canoe, there is plenty to draw you back to St Cyprien itself. The fine gastronomy of St Cyprien is a delight to investigate, as the small family owned restaurants of the area serve some of the finest fois gras, truffles, magrets and pies anywhere in France, and to top it all of, the crepes are absolutely mouth watering. If there are any dishes that you would like to try in your own, self catering St Cyprien villa, the Sunday morning market will provide everything you might need.

Places to visit on holiday in St Cyprien, France

The famous Dordogne town of Sarlat is easily within reach of a St Cyprien apartment. The town is an astonishing monument to the historic wealth of the region, perfectly preserved and still thriving as a market town. Many of Perigord Noir’s finest shops, restaurants and galleries are situated within the medieval walls of Sarlat, making it a special place to visit during your St Cyprien holiday.

Weather in St Cyprien, France

The region’s climate is fantastic. Warm in the summer and mild in the winter, St Cyprien offers a great escape at any time of year. Daily temperatures in the summer tend to reach up to 28˚C during the heat of the day, with warm conditions lasting long into the evening.

Travel to St Cyprien, France

Bergerac Airport (EGC) is only 40km from a holiday rental property in St Cyprien. Flybe and Ryanair both provide a surprising range of direct flights from the UK, arriving into Bergerac in just 2 hours. A hire car is strongly advised for those heading to a St Cyprien property for their holidays, as the region is fantastically remote.

An outstanding, unusual and very comfortable house in a delightful town

5 of 5
Rufus has designed his house with great taste and imagination. It is also extremely com fortable with all facilities, including excellent wi-fi. The view across the Dordogne Valley from the top bedroom is spectacular. The house is very close to the abbey church, located in the warren of charming medieval streets of St Cyprien which is lovely without the tourist crush of other Dordogne towns. It is really quiet at night. A great base to explore the region - less than a hour to the Lascaux caves ( essential visiting) and an easy drive to some outstanding walks around the chateaux. Nice, proper shops in St Cyprien including a memorable boulangerie ( Le Delices de Lucco) and a great fish restaurant ( Cro Marin) Rufus was there to meet us and introduce us to his house. A memorable six days and an unhesitating five star rating.

Should Have Booked For Longer

5 of 5
Spent a week at Mulberry Tree Villa and should have booked for longer. We were met with a friendly and warm welcome from Linda and George. We traveled with parents and teenage children. The villa was very clean, spacious and perfect for our stay. The little extras Linda provides are so thoughtful, fresh eggs, milk, coffee, orange juice, wines, toiletries, and even bathrobes for every one. Linda tries to think of everything and goes above and beyond to try and make your stay perfect. The pool was a perfect way to cool off and relax after a day out sightseeing, and the views are so relaxing and beautiful. Plenty of room inside and out, with two very large patios for everyone to relax, plus a beautiful garden with lots of swings and benches to relax and read a good book. We could not have asked for a better centrally located place to enjoy the Dordogne, everything is literally minutes away. Looking forward to hopefully returning for a longer stay!
