My girlfriend and I enjoyed an all too short family holiday at Castlenau Valence. The property is on the edge of a little village, between Nimes and Ales and about 20 minutes from the lovely duchy of Uzes. We stayed as part of a large group and there was plenty of room for everyone. The house is large and comfortable, with large and well equipped kitchen / dining room at the centre, making cooking a pleasure, and has everything you could possibly need (plus the large utility room is great too).
There are two dining areas outside and a barbecue so our evenings were spent outside enjoying the warm evenings and gorgeous sunsets. There was also ample patio space - one large terrace with tables for lunch and another under a brick built shaded area. This has a built in BBQ and we were delighted to find there was also a large gas grill too, so we had the choice of charcoal or grill. The weather was superb for the whole week so the pool was in constant use - it was a great pool for our large group (really big!) and was really secure, which was reassuring for our little one.
We loved the nearby medieval town of Uzes, with a fantastic market and good restaurants, particularly for lunch in the ‘Place aux Herbes’. For swimming, we either ventured to the nearby river beach (and loved jumping off the rocks here!) or to the beautiful beach at L'Espiguette. All in all a fantastic holiday at a relaxing holiday home.
The accommodation is of exceptional quality with every convenience provided. It is within the grounds of the owners property but totally separated with it's own garden area, patio and hot tub. The owners gave us an extremely warm welcome and provided some truly wonderful local delicacies to start our holiday. If we needed any help we knew we could ask. The setting is in a small quiet hamlet with many traditional market towns nearby. The weather during our visit at the end of October was still pleasantly warm and sunny with temperatures around 26C. This was a perfect base to visit Pont du Gard and Pont d'Arc among many other treasures in the area. We particularly enjoyed Anduze and would highly recommend La Table de Saisons as one of the best restaurants we have visited (don't forget to book!).
This property provided us with a totally relaxing vacation. Late breakfast on the patio before venturing out for the day with spectacular scenery. Everyone that we came into contact with during our stay happily talked with us, with a bit of French and some English we had some great conversations!
We would particularly like to thank the owners for making our stay so memorable.
