The Dordogne is an interesting region to visit, and there are a great many places that should be seen if you have the time. A good starting point might be the world famous Lascaux caves, with their pre-historic animal paintings. Even 17,000 years later, the paintings feel alive, and the quality of them is amazing. Other caves are also to be found dotted in their hundreds throughout the area, some also with paintings, and others simply works of art in themselves with their beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. The Dordogne is also famous for its castles, and allegedly, there are over 1000 of them in the region. Your holiday rental cottage in St Andre d’Allas is the perfect base from which to set out and visit a few of them, although the use of a car will certainly be needed. Finally, don’t forget the small villages scattered around – each one is seemingly more picturesque than the next!

Review Le Manoir Oriental – Sarlat – Dordogne

5 of 5
We have had several holidays at this lovely manor house with our friends, with our latest visit in June 2016. We would strongly recommend the house to other visitors who are looking for a relaxing and authentic holiday in the beautiful Dordogne countryside. The house is very impressive and well maintained and has plenty of room for sharing with other families. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and the furnishings are of a high standard. All the bedrooms have attractive ensuite bathrooms with period fittings. The location has idyllic views and we spent many days at the house enjoying the pool and relaxing and eating outside. Even the pool table in the basement got good use. There is also access to wifi for those who need it. When we were able to draw the kids away there were plenty of places to visit in the local area and we would recommend paddling on the Dordogne, the local market in Sarlat, visiting local castles and the early cave settlements. We are very much looking forward to a return visit.  Chris Clarke

Nice property in great area

5 of 5
The property is very spacious & well equipped ... could quibble about lack of wardrobes in the west wing & some other minor things .... but everything considered excellent value for money & a great base to explore a wonderful area with lots of variety to see & do Will be back to Dordogne in the future

Fabulous holiday

5 of 5
We stayed at the end of August for ten nights, as a family of 4, and had a brilliant holiday. Our boys loved everything, but especially the goats, chicken and sheep, who were very well fed the time we were there I suspect! Ian and Estelle were friendly and helpful during our stay and able to answer questions we had about the surrounding area. Our gite was clean and did the job perfectly for our stay. The pool was lovely and we also enjoyed using the jacuzzi, with its amazing view. The highlight has to be how quiet and peaceful it is, we loved hearing the owls at night and spotting shooting stars, as it was so dark. It was a perfect holiday in a perfect location, and we would totally recommend staying here if you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday surrounded by nature
