Make a holiday villa in Sotta your home away from home

Corsica has so much to offer the visitor that it may be difficult to choose where to stay and what to see and do. With a holiday villa in Sotta, however, you can enjoy a relaxing country break in a small village while being close to many of southern Corsica’s attractions, from nature walks to beaches and historic towns. Holiday accommodation varies from apartments perfect for a romantic break to properties that can accommodate large groups for a family holiday. Most holiday villas in Sotta come with parking and BBQ facilities as well as modern conveniences so that you can entertain with ease. Some properties also have their own swimming pools.

Things to do

Sotta is a small village in the south-east of Corsica. It is relatively new for a Corsican village, having been founded in the mid-19th century.

-The countryside is easily explored from a holiday apartment in Sotta. There are plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking and horse-riding in the plains and mountainous areas around Sotta. Here you’ll find agricultural fields, vineyards, oak and eucalyptus groves and charming little hamlets.

-Golf de Lezza, a golf course a couple of miles south-east of Sotta and overlooking a lagoon and beach is very handy If you’re dying for a day on the greens

-The beach is only a couple of miles from any holiday villa in Sotta. At Etang de Santa Giulia, the lovely white beach lines a secluded bay where you can swim, snorkel, sunbathe or just watch the yachts anchored there. Behind the beach is a lagoon frequented by aquatic birds like herons.

-Porto Vecchio, about 9 miles north-east of Sotto, makes for a great day trip and for stocking up on supplies. Nestled in between the mountains and the ocean, this port has a wide variety of outdoor activities on offer, from walking trails to ancient archaeological sites to a wide range of water sports. There is also a good selection of shops, restaurants and the daily market where you can stock up on those essentials like wild boar. You’ll want to explore the historic streets of this town but try to make time for a boat trip to the nearby Cerbicales Islands. Palombaggia Beach, rated as one of the best in Europe, is located just a little to the south-east of Porto Vecchio.

-Bonifacio is another great day trip from Sotto. Here medieval houses are perched precariously atop cliffs that drop dramatically down to the ocean. There is no shortage of historic sites, gorgeous beaches and nature walks in the area and you’ll also find plenty of restaurants and bars for refuelling. For an unforgettable snorkelling experience, take a boat trip to the Lavezzi Islands and do the underwater trail.

-Sardinia can also be explored from a Sotta holiday home. Simply drive less than half an hour to Bonifacio and from there, take the ferry to Santa Teresa di Gallura in northern Sardinia. The crossing takes about 50 minutes and once you disembark, you’re within easy reach of attractions like the La Maddalena Islands, the chic Costa Smerelda and Sardinia’s interesting prehistoric sites, like the Giants’ Tombs near Arzachena.

The weather in Sotta

Sotta has a Mediterranean climate. In summer, temperatures can rise to around 31 °C and there may be some rainy days. The wettest months are in winter though, with most rain falling from October to December but with quite a few rainy days as late as May. Winter temperatures are cool, with maximum averages of around 14 °C in midwinter and night-time lows of around 5 °C.

Getting to Sotta

Figari Sud-Corse Airport is less than 6 miles from Sotta, so it’s the best airport to fly into. In summer, airlines operate flights from all over Europe, including some cities in the UK, to this airport in the south of Corsica. While it’s easy enough to get a taxi to take you from the airport to your Sotta holiday accommodation, you may find that hiring a car is more convenient for exploring the rest of the island. An alternative way to get to Sotta is to take a ferry from Marseille to Porto Vecchio and then travel onwards from there.

A fantastic villa - faultless!

5 of 5
My family and I stayed here for two weeks over June/July 2012. We have stayed in quite a few villas throughout Europe, and we were very impressed with Villa Dona Lisa. Inside, the villa is very spacious, with a large living area with plenty of sofas and a big flat-screen TV. The kitchen has all the facilities and cooking implements you would need, and connects through to the dining table and living room in a large, open plan fashion. The villa is very clean - something that pleased us immensely. Outdoors, there is a great table for al fresco dining, and there are many other little areas where you can get space from your family and friends if needed. The pool area has a great deck for sunbathing, and the pool is warm, clean and large enough for the kids to have a play. The whole outdoor area is very secluded and private, with well established trees. The location of the villa is great - close to the fantastic Santa Giulia, Palombaggio and Rondinara beaches. You are very close to the great towns of Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio, with the Alta Rocca and L'Ospedale within easy reach for a mountain walk if you get tired of the water. Christian, the owner, is always available if you have problems, and very attentive to our needs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Villa Dona Lisa, and recommend it to anyone looking for a great holiday.
