Make a Holiday Rentals Chalet in Serre-Chevalier, France, Your Home Away From Home

The high altitude ski-resort of Serre-Chevalier sits at between 1200m and 2800m in the Hautes-Alpes department and is one of France's biggest, and best, ski resort complexes. The whole resort is spread over several villages, including the town of Briancon, and the villages of Chantemerle, Le Monêtier-les-Bains and Villeneuve. It has some 250km of ski slopes, but there is little pre-built resort accommodation. Most accommodation for visitors to the area is to be found in privately rented self-catering chalets and apartments. In Briancon town, some well-furnished townhouses can offer great bases for your adventures in Serre-Chevalier, if you have transport.

There are also facilities to help visitors take a huge number of fun sports: walking, climbing, rock climbing and kayaking, to name but a few. But it is in winter, as the snow thickens, that the largest number of visitors arrive. There are over 100 ski slopes, and 60 ski-lifts of various sorts - and both skiers and snow boarders make full use of these excellent facilities.

Places to Visit on Holiday in Serre-Chevalier, France

For those who want to strike out from their comfortable accommodation in Serre-Chevalier, and get away from the ski slopes, there is still a host of places to visit in the area. In the local village of Monetier-les-Bain, there are some relaxing thermal baths, that will help ease the aches and strains of all of that physical activity. The town of Briancon itself is absolutely fascinating, being a walled medieval citadel, with steep narrow streets, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you can shop, dine out, and soak up its unique atmosphere.

The weather in Serre-Chevalier, being over such a large area, and so mountainous, is notoriously unpredictable and subject to quick changes in a matter of hours. This makes accurate weather forecasts an absolute necessity, whether in the summer or winter, when you are out and about. Generally speaking, the Haut-Alpes region has very cold and snowy winters, with warmer summers, below the snow line. The Serre-Chevalier area is prized in particular for the large number of sunny days during the skiing season, whilst still having great snowy conditions.

Lovely host, beautiful apartment, perfect location!

5 of 5
My partner and I booked to stay here so we could enjoy a 10 day cycling holiday. The apartment fitted out requirements perfectly. It was as lovely as it looked in the photos. Clean, comfortable, quiet location and well equipt and offers safe bike storage. William and Dominique were also lovely hosts and did their very best to make us feel welcome. The apartment was well placed to cycle all the local Cols with the Lauterete on the doorstep as well as easy access to Col Du Izoard, Galibier and many others. Definitely comes highly recommended from us!
