A little piece of heaven

5 of 5
How do I begin to describe this haven. We travelled with my parents both in their eighties and this small, bijoux house fitted our needs. We were not prepared for the the atmosphere, peacefulness, friendliness of this place. The kitchen/living area was small but perfectly adequate for our needs. The cupboard with all the glasses, plates etc by the fireplace is a task for the memory as it is necessary to remember where you have taken items from. The table had been laid for our arrival including wine. A very thoughtful touch by Chris. My parents fell in love with their bedroom as they could lie and look at the wonderful view over the village or in to the garden. The shower room was perfect for them. My husband and I had the upstairs bedroom, very steep stairs but we managed. It does get warm up there but the fan provided was more than adequate. The ensuite was lovely with a handheld shower on the bath. The house is an eclectic accumulation and I am sure we did not spot everything. A vast amount of books to read in both English and French, my father thoroughly enjoyed these. Wifi was excellent. There was a huge collection of dvds but as the weather was fabulous we didn't waste our time watching tv instead we sat out in the beautiful garden. The majority of meals were eaten in the shade of the parasol whilst listening to the several local cockerels having a competition to who had the best crow! The bbq area was really pretty with geraniums on one side and pots of herbs on the other. A few warnings, my husband is 6 feet tall and La Chapelle is an old building with low beams, so he cracked his head a few times but that made it more fun for the rest of us! Also the Church has 2 chiming clocks which are not synchronised so one chimes 3 minutes after the other! Although we didn't meet Chris he was extremely helpful throughout the booking process as well as prior and during our visit. If you want to recharge your batteries, get away from it all and enjoy peacefulness this is the place for you. My mother was so upset when we left, she wanted to stay as she said, 'This place grows on you and wraps itself around you.' You leave feeling refreshed and at peace with yourself and the world. Thank you Chris for sharing this little piece of heaven with us.

Isabelle kindly gave us her other house, La Renaissance, which is larger and equally charming

Newly renovated house with excellent new appliances, windows, shower, laundry room. Everything was spotless and the kitchen was well-equipped. Details from the old house such as exposed beams and wooden cabinet doors have been retained. The house is furnished with beautiful antiques and is delightful. (Please note that we stayed at La Renaissance, not Le Petit Sentence, but I am sure that it has the same style and charm.) Isabelle could not have been kinder and more helpful. She left fresh flowers, a bottle of Chablis and various goodies for us and even bought some groceries because we were arriving on Sunday when the shops were closed. The village is beautiful and is a great base for exploring the region. We had a wonderful stay.
