Make A Holiday Rental Cottage in Saissac, France, Your Home Away From Home

Situated in the south of France and some 120km away from the Pyrenees, Saissac is a quiet village that makes a perfect base from which to explore the Languedoc Roussillon region. Self catering accommodation in Saissac comes fully equipped with all the modern conveniences that you would come to expect from a well maintained property, meaning that you will feel immediately at ease from the moment that you walk through the door. A holiday in Saissac is particularly suited for those people that want to discover some of the history of the region.

Things to Do on Holiday in Saissac, France

Whilst the main attractions to visitors spending their holidays in Saissac are the many castles and medieval villages of the region, there are many activities that can be taken part in. There is good fishing to be had in the immediate area of the village, and cyclists may enjoy an afternoon out on the road. A swimming pool is just 3km away, and for golfers, 20km away is a course to play a round on. With forests and meadows surrounding the village, hikers will always be able to find somewhere new to walk, and nature lovers can see some interesting wildlife.

Places to Visit on Holiday in Saissac, France

There is a great deal to see and do in the Languedoc Roussillon region. Once the base for the Cathar religion which was all but wiped out in a series of crusades, the remains of many castles and fortifications bear testament to those times. Saissac itself has a Chateau which is slowly being restored, and this gives a taste of others in the area. Perhaps the most significant fortification, though, is known as La Cite, situated in the town of Carcassonne. Arguably the largest complete fortification in Europe, it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A day here is time well spent indeed. Further south, the Pyrenees are an hour and a half’s drive away, and offer a completely different terrain with fantastic views.

Weather in Saissac, France

Saissac features an almost Mediterranean climate, with the hottest months being July and August. Temperatures during this time can regularly hit over 30 degrees Celsius during the day. Winters are mild, with day time temperatures of around 10 degrees, although this can fall to low single digits at night. Precipitation is heaviest during December with over 100mm falling, whilst during the summer, July has the least amount of rainfall at just 50mm. Holidays in Saissac can be taken at any time of year, but are overwhelmingly more popular during the summer.

Travel to Saissac, France

Many people from the UK choose to drive to their holiday rental cottage in Saissac, as the use of a car in this region is all but essential. However, if you should wish to fly, then the closest airport is at Carcassonne (CCF). Ryanair flies into here from a number of UK cities, including London Stansted (STN) and East Midlands (EMA).

A beautiful Location , peace and tranquility .

4 of 5
Very tranquil and pretty setting . A little bit more remote than we expected but this wasn't a problem . Stocked up at Revel market before arrival and then never moved from this lovely house for 3 days . We just completely chilled out completely , enjoyed the sun and made use of the lovely little pool to cool off when hot House was clean and had everything we needed , large fridge freezer was very useful as we like to shop at local markets and then cook for ourselves . Great to be able to dine alfresco , and because of the situation of the house and patio we could sit or lounge all day as the sun passed right around and then in the evening enjoy the sun as it rotated completely around us . We sat out til' 1 in the morning one particular night just sipping red wine and enjoying the owls hooting , the stars and the moonlight , sublime . A real " wind down " location . I f you enjoy your peace and tranquility then it doesn't get much better than this . Tim , Hild and Tiggy were usually about , but never at anytime intrusive , but always on hand for advice etc . They are currently working away on another project next door , which is a credit to there efforts and is going to be absolutely fantastic when completed . We knew from our holiday last year about the caveau in Bram , 10 mins away , which has lovely wine at a very affordable price . Then we discovered Les Cedres De Robert , in Villesiscle about 2o mins away , even better prices and some of the nicest wines we have ever tasted .The weather was mostly good , the first week was very hot , and the second week there were a couple of rainy mornings which then cleared up into lovely evenings . It did get a little chilly at night and we lit the wood burning stove which was extremely efficient . Very easy to find wood around the grounds , which are beautiful and which you must explore , make sure you walk the trail up to the old Dam . Perhaps not for party goers , this property , but definitely for families and couples who enjoy a little romance .

Fab apartment with amazing views

5 of 5
Stayed in this apartment in June 2017. Beautiful place to stay, very nicely decorated, clean and comfortable with amazing views from the windows. Jenny and her husband were lovely hosts and very helpful in providing information about where to eat and places to visit and even let us use their bikes for a ride by the side of the canal du midi Absolutely loved having the use of the pool as the weather was very hot. So many places to visit nearby. Particularly enjoyed visiting 'la cite', Carcassone, Gruissan, Castlenaudary and the villages of Caunes Minervois. Would highly recommend this property.
