Places to Visit on Holiday in Saissac, France

There is a great deal to see and do in the Languedoc Roussillon region. Once the base for the Cathar religion which was all but wiped out in a series of crusades, the remains of many castles and fortifications bear testament to those times. Saissac itself has a Chateau which is slowly being restored, and this gives a taste of others in the area. Perhaps the most significant fortification, though, is known as La Cite, situated in the town of Carcassonne. Arguably the largest complete fortification in Europe, it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A day here is time well spent indeed. Further south, the Pyrenees are an hour and a half’s drive away, and offer a completely different terrain with fantastic views.

Precipitation is heaviest during December with over 100mm falling, whilst during the summer, July has the least amount of rainfall at just 50mm. Wonderful time

5 of 5
Had a wonderful time with our daughter, son-in-law and 3 year old granddaughter. Being all on one level was a bonus with a little one. The kitchen is very well equipped. Weather was mixed so enjoyed trips out and lazy days at the villa when hot. It was easy to find places to explore, both historic and picturesque. Plenty of maps and suggestions of where to go. We felt very relaxed in this peaceful location. The owners couldn't have been more helpful prior to our stay, answering our various questions and ensuring we had all our needs met. Would genuinely love to come here again. The photos really don't do it justice!

Ideal location

5 of 5
We would thoroughly recommend Sylvie's lovely apartment for a visit to Carcassonne city. It is in a great location to enjoy the Cite, the Bastide and the Canal de Midi. The apartment is very well equipped and comfortable, we self catered quite a bit and everything we needed was there. The terrace is a lovely haven with seating area, eating area and sunbeds - as it is an apartment it is overlooked by other residents but that is to be expected - a lovely place to sit in the evening with a glass of wine or two! The apartment has a very good shower with plenty of hot water all the time. Take a couple of English DVD's if you fancy a film night, it is possible to use the tv remote to convert to English on the odd broadcast programme but it was only the odd thing. Sylvie is a great host, very helpful, and even arranged for us to drop our suitcase with her husband Luc as we arrived very early - she is full of information about the area and supplies plenty of maps and guides, recommended restaurants and wines to buy in the local supermarket - fantastic, thank you. Many thanks to Sylvie and Luc, we enjoyed our stay in your lovely apartment and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Kind regards, Pete and Julie.
