A holiday in Saissac is particularly suited for those people that want to discover some of the history of the region.

Things to Do on Holiday in Saissac, France

There is good fishing to be had in the immediate area of the village, and cyclists may enjoy an afternoon out on the road. A swimming pool is just 3km away, and for golfers, 20km away is a course to play a round on. With forests and meadows surrounding the village, hikers will always be able to find somewhere new to walk, and nature lovers can see some interesting wildlife.

Places to Visit on Holiday in Saissac, France

There is a great deal to see and do in the Languedoc Roussillon region. Once the base for the Cathar religion which was all but wiped out in a series of crusades, the remains of many castles and fortifications bear testament to those times. Saissac itself has a Chateau which is slowly being restored, and this gives a taste of others in the area. Perhaps the most significant fortification, though, is known as La Cite, situated in the town of Carcassonne. Arguably the largest complete fortification in Europe, it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A day here is time well spent indeed. Further south, the Pyrenees are an hour and a half’s drive away, and offer a completely different terrain with fantastic views.

Weather in Saissac, France

Saissac features an almost Mediterranean climate, with the hottest months being July and August. Temperatures during this time can regularly hit over 30 degrees Celsius during the day. Winters are mild, with day time temperatures of around 10 degrees, although this can fall to low single digits at night. Precipitation is heaviest during December with over 100mm falling, whilst during the summer, July has the least amount of rainfall at just 50mm. Holidays in Saissac can be taken at any time of year, but are overwhelmingly more popular during the summer.

Lovely place to stay for a family holiday. The gypsy caravan and pool were a big hit

Very nicely decorated and in charming surroundings. Sarah and Rene were very helpful when the electricity cut out during England's match in the world cup!

Quirky place. Veiws from terrace amazing.

4 of 5
The gite was unusual with lots of stairs up and down. In the most beautiful countryside and fantastic views from the rooftop terrace. Wish we could have had small table and folding chairs up there instead of only 2 sun loungers. If lying on them you can't see the views and being 72 I would prefer some nice chairs to make the most of that beautiful terrace. The bbq was in an enclosed garden with no views at all I understand you can't have the bbq anywhere else but would have liked to take our food up to rooftop terrace to enjoy. The only comfortable chairs were in the lounge area and that had no sun or views at all. Some aspects of the place needed a good clean and we had to do some kitchen cleaning eg. oven to make it useable. Anne and Eric were good hosts and we liked them very much. Communication was fine with Anne but difficult when only Eric was there as he has no english and my french is pretty poor!
