Make a holiday villa in Saint-Simon your home away from home

Situated inland, around 30km from the beautiful coastal beaches of Southern France, Saint-Simon is a charming rural escape. Whether you plan to visit for a couple's retreat, a family holiday or a large group event, you will find HomeAway offers many choices of Saint-Simon holiday villas. Whether you want a quiet break taking in the tranquility of the local area or you're ready for shopping and beach activities, the variety of holiday villas in Saint-Simon will suit you perfectly.

Things to do

Whilst Saint-Simon is a rural community it is by no means lacking in things to do, both in the local area and just a short drive away. As with many rural communities, a car is a great asset to help you see as much of the local area as possible and allow you to venture further than you might if you didn't have your own transport. When you rent a cosy holiday cottage in Saint-Simon you open the door to quiet nights and fascinating days.

-Saintes markets are a good excuse to visit the pretty town with its Roman architecture. There are Romanesque churches to discover and explore while you day trip from your Saint-Simon holiday villa. If you are particularly interested in Roman ruins, the L’Arc of Germanicus as well as Les Arenas are both popular attractions that are well worth a visit.

-Shopping in Royan or spending a day at the beach there is a great way to wile away a summer's day. Just a 30 minute drive or so will have you taking in the sandy white beaches and cooling off in the ocean. There are a large variety of stores and cafes to ensure that your day is spent relaxing from start to finish.

-Visit the Musée des Arts du cognac (Maco) in Cognac to find out the history of this famous drink. The tourist offices in the area can provide you with a booklet titled 'Les Bonness Adresses du Cognac'. This booklet contains information on all the local producers of Cognac who offer tours. There are many great Cognac houses that will allow you to taste and purchase this drink that has made the town so famous throughout the world. Cognac is just a short drive inland from Saint-Simon

-Swimming pools are located in the local area if you don't feel like driving to the beach. Within about 15 minutes of the Saint-Simon area you will find local swimming pools where you can cool off and work on your tan. Kids especially love the pool and it can be a fun family outing where you know everyone is safe and enjoying themselves.

-The forest and fields of the local area are unspoilt and a charm to explore. Some holiday villas in Saint-Simon come complete with bicycles to allow you to explore the local area. You will come across pretty villages, windmills and wildlife while you cycle. This is a beautiful area of the country to see while the wind whistles through your hair.

The weather in Saint-Simon

Like the rest of France, Saint-Simon enjoys a fairly temperate climate for most of the year. The warmest months for visiting are from May to September, with temperatures reaching as high as 28°C. If you are planning a holiday with a lot of beach time, it would be best to visit in these warmer months. During this time water temperature will be at its warmest. Should you be looking for a cosy break in Saint-Simon in the colder times of the year, November to February are your best choices.

Getting to Saint-Simon

Most visitors to Saint-Simon will likely take the Eurostar to Paris or even catch a short flight with popular carriers such as EasyJet or British Airways. The closest train stations to your Saint-Simon holiday accommodation are Royan or Saintes. From there it is just a 30 minute drive or so to reach your destination. Car hire outlets are plentiful at all airports though these should be booked ahead of time.

Fantastic Gite - Wonderful Location

5 of 5
Just returned from a wonderful weeks stay at this fabulous property. Shani & Paul were brilliant hosts giving us lots of great tips on where to eat and to visit and all of them were spot on! Gite was very very well equipped with everything you could need and really comfortable (I got very attached to the sun beds 😁). Great for nearby shops (2 mins in car) for everything you could need and a 5 minute drive from Cognac which is beautiful. Great place for relaxing or for the more active - wonderful walks (we didn't do as subbed beckoned) and beautiful places to visit nearby. Will miss Missi and Holly very much (Shani & Paul's wonderful and very affectionate dogs) all in all a wonderful place to stay and will absolutely be going back!

Lovely Peaceful Villa

4 of 5
We had a lovely 10 days here in June, very quiet, peaceful and relaxing. A beautiful region of France where the local were very friendly. The villa was fairly well equipped and the Housekeeper and Handyman, Andrea & Phil were always on hand to assist with anything. Tip for Dog Owners - I would not recommend the local Vet in Mansle though, they forgot to sign one part of the Pet Passport which led to a self guided tour around Calais at 7am in the morning trying to find a vet that would sign the pet passport. Thus resulting in missing the allocated tome slot for channel tunnel train and double the vet fees. There are supermarkets in Mansle and nearby Aigre and also a number of restaurants; note check opening times for these restaurants esp on a Monday! Otherwise the food eating out is of good quality and well priced. I would recommend this place to friends or family, it is large enough for a couple of families to stay there.
