Make a Holiday Rental Cottage in Nicolas-des-Eaux, France, Your Home Away From Home

Nicolas-des-Eaux lies midway along the Blavet valley, in the French department of Morbihan. This sits on the south side of the peninsula of Brittany, across in the north-west of France. It is a small, pleasant village, that was once an important river port; now it is a much-loved tourist destination, sitting in the idyllic Breton countryside, not far from Carnac. Visitors on their holidays in Nicolas-des-Eaux have a good range of rental self-catering accommodation to choose from. The local valleys have many rustic gites available for rent, along with grander cottages, farmhouses and holiday apartments in the town itself.

Things to Do on Holiday in Nicolas-des-Eaux, France

The Blavet valley, with its gentle inclines, and meandering river, offer the holidaymaker a perfect canvas upon which to paint their daily activities. A long distance track stretches upstream to Pontivy, and downstream to the estuary at Hennebont, over 40 miles along which the visitor can walk, run, ride horses or cycle. The river itself is furnished with a number of canoe way stations, and it is a beautiful stretch of river to kayak down; the river is also said to offer great fishing. Further south, around Lorient, there are excellent beaches for sailing, surfing and sand yachting. Yachts for the sea, rather than the beach, can be hired at harbours of La Trinité-sur-Mer and Etel, whilst on your holidays in Nicolas-des-Eaux.

Places to Visit on Holiday in Nicolas-des-Eaux, France

Perhaps the most popular attraction, in the environs around Nicolas-des-Eaux, and maybe the most popular in Brittany, are the awesome and ancient standing stones of Carnac. These megalithic monuments are some twenty miles south and are scattered in fantastical and mystical patterns across this misty landscape. It is believed they were placed in the megalithic era, some six thousand years ago and are an absolutely essential sight to be seen whilst in Brittany. Carnac also has gorgeous beaches of its own, some sheltered, some wind-blasted; but the towns of Lorient and Vannes offer some respite from the elements. Here you can sample the other delights of Breton culture - the excellent cheese, cider and fine food, as well as some of the unique crafts that Brittany is rightly famed for.

Weather in Nicolas-des-Eaux, France

A temperate, mild clime is awaiting visitors on their holidays in Nicolas-des-Eaux, one where there is a sensible mix of sun and wind, rain and cloud. In the summer, it can be quite hot, with temperatures in Nicolas-des-Eaux reaching the high twenties degrees Celsius. Winters are relatively benign, if a little wet, and the Morbihan region can easily see some 25 inches of rain spread throughout the year.

Lovely cottage and provides everything you could need for a relaxing or energising holiday. Real walking distance to the village and a great base to explore the area and region. Probably the best equipped French cottage we have rented - for adults and kids. Really enjoyed our stay and happy to recommend.

Wonderful cottage in a quiet little village not far from bigger towns. Very well equiped. Owners were very welcoming and gave us loads of useful information. Nothing was too much trouble. The pattiserie lady coming round in the mornings was a real treat as was the local Bistro. We enjoyed using the heated pool and the rowing boat on the river a short walk away. Very relaxed atmosphere around the village. The locals are very friendly.

Excellent experience in St.Nicolas des Eaux

The cottage was very well presented and equipped and with a very nice garden for dining outside.Michael and Patricia were extremely helpful and hospitable from start to finish. The property corresponded accurately to the details on the website. St.Nicolas is a very attractive village and an ideal centre for walking and for visiting a wide area of Brittany.Pontivy, the adjoining town, is well served by restaurants, shops and good supermarkets, and is very interesting historically. The weekly markets in Vannes and Hennebont in particular are very good. The Morbihan, Vannes,Josselin ,Port Louis, and many other places of historic and scenic interest are all within short driving times and we enjoyed visiting these and then returning to the riverside tranquillity of St.Nicolas. We were very pleased with our stay and would happily recommend the cottage and village to anybody considering visiting Brittany.
