The Blavet valley, with its gentle inclines, and meandering river, offer the holidaymaker a perfect canvas upon which to paint their daily activities. A long distance track stretches upstream to Pontivy, and downstream to the estuary at Hennebont, over 40 miles along which the visitor can walk, run, ride horses or cycle. The river itself is furnished with a number of canoe way stations, and it is a beautiful stretch of river to kayak down; the river is also said to offer great fishing. Further south, around Lorient, there are excellent beaches for sailing, surfing and sand yachting. Yachts for the sea, rather than the beach, can be hired at harbours of La Trinité-sur-Mer and Etel, whilst on your holidays in Nicolas-des-Eaux.

Here you can sample the other delights of Breton culture - the excellent cheese, cider and fine food, as well as some of the unique crafts that Brittany is rightly famed for.

The description of St Nicolas lived up to all it said - AMAZING! Well worth the visit. We enjoyed the local bars and eateries from pain au chocolate and croissants being delivered by the beep of a horn at about 0820 every morning (except Monday) just outside the house, to crepes and gaufres served until 9pm just around the corner. So convenient. We hired bikes for the week and enjoyed kayaking and swimming in the river. Local town is about 4 miles away and has a good selection of supermarkets and local eateries, banks etc. We had 2 great days surfing at Quirberon just an hour away on the Atlantic Coast. The house is great for 4 but the lorries at night can be quite noisy. Whilst traditionally beautiful, squeaky floorboards would make it a hassle to share with friends possibly. The lack of garden is no problem although didn't discover the outside clothes line until the last day. Parking is free just across the road so car is very safe. We really enjoyed our stay. There is lots to do on the doorstep.

On arrival at Blavet River Cottage we were charmed by the beauty of the grounds and how lovely the cottage looked. The owners had left some essentials which was a lovely touch. The property was clean and tidy and very well equipped. We enjoyed kayaking and playing pool during our stay as well as swimming in the pool and walking in the grounds. A lovely tranquil holiday - well worth a visit!
