A very pleasant detached house, secluded yet excellent for rail and bus transport.

5 of 5
We chose this house in preference to the ones in the more picturesque old parts of town because it is a few minutes walk from the main rail and bus stations - we used Perpignan as a base for seaside and mountain day trips; plus it has outside space. The house itself is very well equipped, comfortable and very clean. The open plan lounge and dining area is very spacious; there’s a reasonable sized kitchen and a downstairs toilet. The place is furnished quite tastefully, with nice old wooden stairs to the pleasant bedrooms and bathroom. Outside there’s a large patio space marked off by planters of small olive and palm trees . The long driveway, lined with oleander, means that the house is very quiet and secluded despite being so close to the transport services. This entrance is shared with a small buddhist temple (though it just looks like an ordinary building) and occasionally you’d see someone coming for yoga or prayers; this was not intrusive, the house feels very private. It is set back from a residential road - the pavements are a bit neglected but all the houses have lovely wrought iron balconies and most are quite smart. Very close by, a garden-bordered canal provides a 10 min walk into the centre of Perpignan, it’s a very attractive feature although the dog mess needs sorting out in places. There are 2 small supermarkets about 5 minutes walk away, a little market in a nearby square on Thursdays and various cafes and restaurants near the station. Perpignan is a nice town with a Castillet and town museum, medieval fortress, a couple of small art galleries in lovely buildings, and a memorial, with exhibition, commemorating the troubled relationship with Algeria: all of which I would recommend. There are some attractive pedestrian streets, squares and markets. For us, it worked well to be able to walk into town but to be based close to the train and bus stations - a lot of places around can be reached on the cheap although not hugely frequent “1 euro” bus, including seaside Collioure and the mountain railway at Villefranche sur Conflent. Madame Emidio, who we contacted about booking the house, was very kind and helpful and even met us at the TGV station (5 hours from Paris, connects with the Eurostar). She does not speak English but tolerated our French and would have arranged an English-speaker to greet us if we had wanted. I would recommend this house to anyone exploring Perpignan and surrounding area.

The lanlady was very welcoming and helpful. The flat had everything we needed.Very clean, so cosy. We loved the balcony, a real delight to have our meals there. The flat is also very close to the town centre and buses. It is a good base for days out to see local attractions. Restaurants and supermakets near by. We really enjoyed our stay and the weather . We highly recommend it for a nice break.
