  • Secluded home in Normandy countryside. France profonde of village life and rural culture
    5 of 5

Visitors who are looking for a quiet getaway in the midst of the countryside, fabulous lanes and woods for walks will not be disappointed. Eddy the dog who was welcome in the cottage could never have enough of these walks. The friendly owners welcomed us to the cottage and showed us around. Their conversation was in French, but there was a folder in English to fall back on. In the sitting room there was the most wonderful open fire and the owners supplied huge amounts of logs to feed it with. The electric heating kept the other rooms warm and the hot water never ran out. St Lo was 15 minutes by car and had a variety of supermarkets. Bayeux of tapestry fame was 20 minutes away and well worth a visit. The cottage was filled with the owners collections of cars, baskets, books and pictures, which made it look like a home and not just a rented cottage. This review is for a winter stay and we would love to come back and see it in summer.

  • pretty little cottage in a quiet location

Ideally situated in a quite, rural location about 30 minutes South of Bayeux and within an hour of all the D-Day beaches the cottage has everything you need for a relaxing holiday, with lanes for walks all around. There are shops within ten minutes drive at Balleroy but it easy to stock up at the bigger supermarket at Le Lily Mittray about 20 minutes away. We visited Villedieu les Poeles, which is delightful, about 50 mins to the South as well as numerous other villages within easy reach due to the location of the cottage.
