  • Idyllic bliss

Our family stayed at Château la Choltière for 2 weeks in August 2018 and can honestly say that it was the best vacations we have had in many years. Firstly the Château hits you with its grandeur on arrival and it continues when you enter the property. We felt instanly comfortable and commented that after only 2 days that it felt we had been there much longer. Mr Chabot met us on arrival and showed us around and also popped in occasionally to make sure all was fine, he also helped us when our car got a flat battery! Always on hand but no intrusive. Our three children (10, 7 and 6) had such a wonderful time and spent most days swimming and jumping into the wonderful pool, never have we experienced in many years of renting properties a pool that was so magnificent, as was the Jacuzzi. We rowed the boat around the lake most days, fished and caught a number of carp (two sizable ones). It was wonderful to teach my boys how to fish and row a boat. I will admit that our children are of the modern era with regards to technology, yet the Château had no TV or Wifi. However not once in two weeks did they ask for their tech. Most vacations they look forward to going home but not on this occasion, we had three grumpy faces at dinner on the last evening, even one protest followed by a sit in on the final morning from our 7 year old son. As a keen road cyclist I was up at the crack of dawn 11 of the 14 days to experience endless perfect roads, rural fields, lakes and thousands of sunflowers growing along the routes. I cycled around 50k per day and can honestly say that on some rides I saw more villages than cars and one pot hole in two weeks! Oh what I would give for that in the UK! The Château is in a very rural location but its not isolated, Le Blanc is only 5 minutes by car and Chateauroux and Poiteirs within reach in approximately 45 minutes. I barbequed & cooked most evenings with with fresh produce purchased locally, the market in Le Blanc on Saturdays and Wednesdays is a must. We sat and ate wonderful food, drank wine outside and gazed at a sky full of stars due to there being zero light polution, our children have never seen a full night sky. We listened to the crickets and the owls once it was dark, it was so idyllic. In summary this was a magnificent vacation made by a stunning location in a beautiful part of France. Thank you Maja and Mr Chabot from all of us, we hope to see you again very soon

  • Beautifully restored house in a stunning village

We had a fantastic week in Emma’s beautifully restored house, it exceeded our expectations. We didn’t go far from the house all week as we had superb weather and an amazing space to truly relax in. The garden was so relaxing and the house was a real joy to spend time in. Nice and cool too when the weather got very hot. I know my dog loved the limestone floors and slipped easily into French way of life. The village was very charming and everyone was so friendly. Getting fresh bread, a cake and a coffee everyday quickly became the routine. We hired kayaks on the river and we explored down river for a very relaxing half day. We will defiantly return as I don’t feel we ventured very far as it was so lovely. Thank you.
