Make a holiday apartment in Rouen your home away from home

The beautiful and historic city of Rouen is in Northern France, nestled on the bank of the river Seine. A holiday apartment in Rouen is an ideal base to explore the best that Normandy has to offer. The historic sights of Rouen and the surrounding antique towns, the beautiful countryside and the lovely Normandy beaches are all easily accessible. You will feel right at home as your holiday apartment in Rouen offers all the modern conveniences you would expect for a comfortable and relaxing stay.

Things to do

p>Steeped in history, Rouen was once one of the largest and most prosperous towns in medieval Europe and was the ancient capital of Normandy. As such, the architectural sights of Rouen are spectacular and including the castle, the Palais de Justice, the university, various impressive churches and a number of excellent museums. The variety of things to see and do in this warm and friendly area will ensure your stay in a holiday apartment in Rouen is one that is bound to be unforgettable.

-The Cathedrale Notre Dame de Rouen is one place that should be at the top of your list to visit. This beautiful cathedral, one of the most famous in France, is crowned by 3 impressive towers and decorated by lacy gothic stonework. Behind the cathedral is the Archbishop’s Palace, which is the site where in 1431 Joan of Arc was tried as a heretic. If you visit during the summer months you will be treated to a spectacular sound and light show that is projected onto the front of the cathedral.

-The Musee Jeanne d Arc is another great place to visit. This museum celebrates the life of Joan of Arc. The 1400s lifestyle is recreated using wax figures and you can delve deep into the story of the warrior saint.

-The Jardin des Plantes are beautiful botanical gardens that cover over 8 hectares. As you stroll around the gardens you will discover a huge variety of plants as well as see various fish and animals. It is a most pleasant way to spend a few hours.

-Shopping is great in Rouen. Want to satisfy your sweet tooth? Then take a visit to the Auzou chocolate shop with its beautifully made confectionery. There are also some excellent markets where you can buy fresh local produce. They are a great place to shop for supplies to cook your meals in your Rouen holiday apartment. Don’t forget to pick up delicious cheeses and apples, and of course a bottle of cider or calvados (apple brandy), the favourite regional tipples of Normandy.

-Sightseeing opportunities outside of Rouen are plentiful. It’s an hour’s drive to the coast and the beaches of Normandy. You can visit the sites of the D-Day landings or find a quiet spot to enjoy the sun, sea and sand. Le Havre is a large port city full of attractions, while nearby Honfleur and Deauville have sufficient of interest to make for worthy day trips from Rouen holiday homes.

The weather in Rouen

Rouen has a mild but humid temperate climate. Temperatures can vary greatly too, from an average of 1°C in winter to 23°C in summer. The temperatures are warmest from June to September. Humidity in the region is generally always above 50% and has been known to reach 100%. The area also has no dry season; most months have, at least, light drizzle.

Getting to Rouen

The easiest way to reach Rouen is to drive over on the ferry into Dieppe. There is a train station at Rouen so taking a train via Eurotunnel and Paris is another option. If you choose to fly into Paris, you can pick up a hire car and still be in your holiday apartment in Rouen in well under 2 hours.

Great property in great location

5 of 5
You know you struck gold with a holiday rental when you don't want to leave the place. That's how we felt about 'Little Angel'. The apartment has been renovated to a very high standard and beautifully done up, everything in it is of excellent quality. If, like me, you like history, you're in for a real treat. The apartment is in a very old, but well maintained, timber framed building. The mattress in the bedroom is very, very comfortable and our children said that the sofa bed was really comfortable too. After a great night of sleep, we got up and made some freshly ground coffee with coffee beans provided by the owner. Christophe, by the way, is a very attentive host. I phoned him as we left the car park in order to ask for directions, and less than two minutes later he was there to show us the way. 'Little Angel' is in a great location, right by the old market and only a five minute walk to the cathedral. Everything you need is on your doorstep. We wish we could have stayed longer in Rouen and at 'Little Angel', but we hope to come back again. If Christophe and his wife ever decide to own a holiday rental in the Normandy countryside, we'll be the first ones to book it. We were very impressed with their attention to detail. Great town, great property, great stay.

We had a great time in this lovely little apartment. It was a great, central location. The owners were helpful. The beds were comfy and the kitchen had everything we needed.
