La Fontaine is situated in a peaceful village in a quiet back street, yet close to larger towns where there is lots to do and see (Marciac and it's Jazz festival a particular bonus for us in early August and also the mountains of the Pyrenees which are an easy drive away).
We have stayed here twice now and the house, pool and garden are perfect for families (we stayed with another family of 5, making 9 of us in total). The facilities and layout are perfect for a relaxed holiday in a private setting behind massive cast iron gates.
The pool and outdoor table tennis were ideal for our 5 boys to wile away the long hot summer days. There is a playing field a few hundred yards away for ball games and woods behind the house which are great for exploring and the kids enjoyed their forays into the village each morning for croissants and bread.
The house is cool inside with lots of options for sleeping and relaxing in the evenings (although the loft bedroom gets a bit hot if you want a lie in once the sun is up!). The surrounding area has all sorts of activities available, too numerous to mention, but we particularly enjoyed canoeing trips with the family where we could picnic at our leisure on the river banks (much quieter than in the Dordogne where the river can be like a canoe motorway in our experience!!).
We have loved our relaxed stays here and days out to surrounding villages and towns. The house is elegant with a fantastic old sweeping / creaking wooden staircase yet has the space to be practical at the same time (large utility room and bathroom downstairs).
There was help on hand from a British couple any time we had a query, all we had to do was call. The information provided by the owners was accurate and helpful, with lots of recommendations for eating out and activities locally. Although we ventured out a few days on each holiday we loved the house and garden so much we spent most of our time cooking and relaxing there!
I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a relaxed, effortless holiday where you can enjoy rural French life and at the same time easily access much more with a good road network.
What can I say we had a great stay in this lovely gite in a fabulous location.
We arrived on a Sunday and were worried we would not be able to buy some food and drink.
Frances was excellent informing us of a supermarket on route , but she also offered to buy some items for us and lay on a simple chicken salad.
We arrived to a lovely cooked flavoured chicken just out the oven with home made bread and salad nothing simple about it at all. There was wine and a welcome pack of tea coffee etc. We particularly liked the lemon drinks, thanks Frances.
The gite was in a rural location with fabulous views and so peaceful, but it was only minutes away from local villages, great great location.
The gite itself was a lovely,a great open living room ,kitchen dinning area.
The two bedrooms were large and both on suite. There was a dishwasher and all you would have at home. The place was immaculately clean and tidy. The seating area outside was private and the garden and pool excellent. Frances and Richard were great hosts and took time to offer advice and help about the area, which they obviously love. We felt relaxed and welcome thank you for a great stay.
