We had a lovely time at Les Armengauds Gite. The actual gite is extremely comfortable with a very airy feel yet also can be cosy with the wood burning stove lit! Everywhere was clean and tidy on arrival and Elizabeth (the property manager – who speaks English and is very attentive) was great at showing us around and going over the details of the property and site.
The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need – from complementary tea and coffee to dishwasher, washer and coffee maker. (There is no dryer but not a problem for us during our stay.)
The lounge is very comfortable with two good-sized sofas, a TV (monitor), DVD player and a selection of DVDs. The wood burning stove is amazing and a real plus to the property. It heats the entire place after about an hour and although I imagine not needed in the summer (!), it was a real added bonus on the couple of chilly evenings we had in early May.
The main bedroom overlooks the back and is spacious enough for your stuff (hanging wardrobe with drawers). The ensuite loo is a nice touch.
The family bathroom is lovely – and again, some complementary soap and shampoo a nice touch. (Especially if you’ve just arrived and missed those off your shopping list!)
Although we didn’t use it, the front bedroom has a lovely view of the front garden and play area.
Outside, there is more space than we knew what to do with! The front of the property has the play area, a large lawn and a decking area with barbeque. There’s also a small lower lawn where kids can kick a football about.
At the back, there’s a raised eating area (with another BBQ) and also the pool – again, up some steps and well away from the property – which affords added privacy, if the farmhouse isn’t booked. There is also a lovely orchard with cherry, apricot, apple, pear and walnut (I think!) trees. The cherries were just coming in to fruit when we were there so yet another little (amazingly-tasty) treat!
We used Les Armengauds as our base to discover more of the region, which flanks Aude, Haute Garonne and (a little further afield) the ski slopes of Ariège. So much to see and do in this wonderful region including Carcassonne Cité; the Pyrennes and a nip over to duty-free Andorra; Toulouse; and Narbonne (and the Med coast). We even ventured a little way into Spain via the beautiful French town of Collioure.
Couldn’t recommend highly enough. We’ll definitely be back.
This is the second time staying at Chateau de Montoussel. The first time we stayed in the Mutley gite which was just lovely. This time we took all three gites. I cannot express how much fun we had with the whole family being there with us. My parents stayed in the Red Y Pink gite, my sister and her family took over the Hopkins gite and I of course took the Mutley gite with the African bed which over looks the country side. To wake up in the morning and look out at that view. Well you have to see it to believe it. We have already booked for next year. Just cannot wait. A big thank you to Will and Karen for creating a relaxing atmosphere and three beautiful gites. See you next year.
