We spent a lovely holiday here over two and a half weeks in unseasonable September sunshine. We received a warm welcome from the owners, who were extremely kind and helpful. The accommodation was spacious, half of a large 18th Century farmhouse, particularly as there were only two of us. The kitchen was well equipped with kettle, coffee maker, gas and electric hob, oven, microwave, toaster, fridge and freezer. Some sharp knives and lids for saucepans would have been useful. Be careful: the hob extractor fan is set quite low, and we both banged our heads on it, but then, neither of us is very tall. There is plenty of seating inside and out for eating, drinking and relaxing. The bathroom was well equipped with two sinks, a shower, a separate bath with shower, and a bidet. There were two separate WCs: one downstairs with its own hand wash basin, and one upstairs without. We felt that a hand wash basin in the upstairs WC would have been useful. The bedroom we used was of a reasonable size with an old fashioned double wardrobe and a comfortable bed. Being in the countryside it is very peaceful. The sheep or goats on the neighbouring farm have bells around their necks, so you may hear them occasionally in the night. There is also a nearby enthusiastic cockerel, so even with the shutters closed, you will know when it becomes light outside. The property is furnished in a blend of period and modern, and feels very homely. The large, gated courtyard gives plenty of open space for star gazing on clear nights. This is probably one of the best holidays we have ever had, in part due to the accommodation at the Gite du Porche. Many thanks for everything.
clean well equipped property with plenty of space.
It is in a quiet hamlet, a short walk to the bar, restaurants, convenience shop and railway station.
Our party comprised of 4 adults, who had come to see the motor racing at nearby Angouleme, so we appreciated the space and especially the showers and toilets. We only eat out once, at the nearby lake bar and restaurant, so did a fair amount of self catering where we found the property's cooker, pots, pans, utensils, crockery and dishwasher, well up for the job.
We all enjoyed staying here and would recommend it to anyone.
