Take a River Trip
The Dordogne River is just 12km from your Proissans holiday villa and offers leisurely river cruises past the many chateaux perched above the river valley. Replica 18th century Gabare boats are used for the boat tours which sail pass some of the area's most beautiful scenery.

Outdoor Activities
The Dordogne is ideal for outdoor pursuits with rural scenery and quiet roads which are perfect for exploring by car, on foot or by bicycle. The nearby rivers offer fishing, canoeing and swimming.

Golf
This area of Aquitaine is well known for its fine golf courses. The nearest ones to your holiday rental in Proissans are at Vitrac-Sarlat, 11km away. Alternatively head for Golf de Brive which is 30km drive.

Places to Visit in Proissans, Dordogne

Chateau de Beynac
This magnificent 12th century chateau was built by the Barons of Beynac to guard the Dordogne valley. Set high on the limestone cliff the crenellated walls and moat show how impenetrable this castle would have been. Access from the village of Beynac is by a 15 minute hike. It is just 17km from Proissans.

Sarlat
Explore the delightful old houses of well preserved Sarlat-la-Canéda, a sizeable medieval town close to Proissans. Visit Sarlat Cathedral, the Benedictine Abbey and the lovely house of writer and judge, Etienne de la Boétie.

Lascaux Caves
Just 19km north of your Proissans holiday rental are the famous Lascaux Caves with their fascinating cave paintings. The actual caves have been closed to the public to preserve the colourful artwork, but an exact replica has been created, just 200 metres away with an informative Visitor Centre.

Characterful Carlux retreat

This holiday home is beautifully presented and very well equipped with everything necesssary for a comfortable stay in this lovely area. Being part of a very old stone building - with of course the amazing vaulted stone sitting room - it has great character and has been pleasantly and sympathetically modernised throughout. During our stay in November the weather turned quite cold and it was necessary to make use of the wood burning stove in the kitchen - which Richard the owner supplied plenty of logs for - and two portable electric heaters for the other rooms. Being in an elevated postion the property has good views of the surrounding countryside and a pleasant terraced area with dining furniture outside.
