Make holiday rental accommodation or a property in Prades, France your home away from home

Idyllically situated between the golden beaches of the Mediterranean coastline and the ski resorts of the Pyrenees, Prades, France is a magnificent place to take a holiday rental, especially as you can easily take a day trip into Andorra or northern Spain. Prades is the capital city of the Conflent region of Pyrenees-Orientales, and has been an important town in French history due to its position at the meeting of several rivers at the base of the Canigou Mountains. There is a strong Catalan influence in the town, which combined with the exceptional climate and stunning scenery make Prades a wonderfully nice place to be.

Things to do on holiday in Prades, France

The town of Prades is a very pretty, red roofed settlement, offering all the shops and services you need, so there is no need to trek to a larger town for supplies for a self catering holiday in Prades. The Tuesday market is always busy and loud as it is one of the town’s most social weekly events, and you can pick up some great bargains.

The open, natural environment of Prades, France, means that it is a haven for walkers. Each marked trail around the town is surrounded by wild flowers and unique geological features, especially if you head into the soaring peaks of the mystical Mount Canigou. There are huge swathes of the land included in national parks due to the important, unspoilt nature they contain. These are especially popular for walkers as there are some excellent hiking trails. Many of these routes are also aimed for use on mountain biking and riding holidays, all of which thrive from Prades. There are stables and mountain biking centres in and around Prades from which you can book from a short day trip up to a week long excursion on bike, horseback or even on a donkey, which is a great way to get that little bit closer to nature, allowing true relaxation whilst on a Prades holiday.

The shear rock faces of the Canigou Mountains are pitted and rugged, perfect for adventurers staying in Prades property to investigate using ropes, crampons and headlamps. Caving, canyoning and climbing holidays are spectacular, as the natural environment could have been designed specifically for the activities!

The glorious beaches of the Mediterranean are just half an hours drive from a Prades property too, meaning that if the temperatures soar too high to take to the hills, you can very easily spend a day relaxing on the beach with the soft, golden and between your toes and the sound of the Mediterranean gently lapping the shore filling your ears.

Every year, Prades’ favourite son, the composer Pablo Casals, is honoured with the huge Pablo Casals Festival of Chamber Music (lasting 3 weeks from the end of July). If you enjoy your films, the Prades Festival of Films, the Cine-Rencontres (mid-July), occurs during the summer too, as well as a host of sporting events, fetes and shows, which make the summer months a hugely enjoyable and entertaining time to rent a Prades property.

Places to holiday in Prades, France

Depending on your choice of activities while staying in a Prades property will determine which of the surrounding villages will be most appealing. Vernet Les Bains will be of interest to walkers and mountain climbers in a Prades property due to its location under the peak of Mount Canigou. The large casino here may tempt visitors to visit during the evening too.

If you would like a day by the sea during the summer, Saint Cyprien is a delightful seaside resort offering a glorious sweeping beach and all the water sport facilities you could wish for.

Weather in Prades, France

Prades receives almost 330 days of sun every year, with daily temperatures in July and August often reaching the mid 30’s (˚C). Spring and autumn, when temperatures remain around 25˚C are the best time to take a Prades property to head into the hills.

Flights to Prades, France

Perpignan International Airport (PGF) is located just 50km from the centre of Prades. Property in the town can be reached within just 4 hours of leaving the UK, as Ryanair, BMIbaby and Flybe all provide direct flights to Perpignan from Stansted (STN), Southampton(SOU) and Manchester (MAN) respectively.

Spacious, clean, amazing views & homely vibe

5 of 5
A great place to relax, socialise and and enjoy the beautiful countryside. The kitchen dinning area is an amazing communal area where you can cook whilst remaining amidst the party. The bed room was comfy with the lovely French shutters you can throw open in the morning to drink in the beautiful views and mountain air. The cosy lounge has a wood burner and enough space to spread out after over indulging all things French. There are so many activities for adrenaline junkies, with winter sports, mountain biking, hiking, climbing etc and there is so much more, especially if like me you are not an adrenaline junkie. There are many historic towns & villages in easy reach with markets, cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy eating and drinking to your hearts content. We had an amazing meal at El Taller Restaurant nearby where we enjoyed excellent value, friendly service and the best of contemporary French cooking. Also a short drive away is the St Thomas Les Bains natural hot spring baths, float in the beautiful outdoor pool whilst taking in the breath taking mountain scenery. (they are proper hot) Also due to some strange French rule blokes have to wear budgie smugglers. The coast is in easy reach for a lovely day trip (we explored Collioure, a picturesque town with a castle where Matisse did some great paintings. For a holiday with so much to do on your door step but beautiful enough to stay and enjoy all the home comforts, this is a great place to base your holiday in unspoilt France.

Comfortable characterful gite up in the hills

4 of 5
This gite has superb views from a south facing balcony which would be a sun trap in good weather (we were unfortunate and had two unusually wet days out of four!). The cottage is small but there’s plenty of space for two people with comfortable twin beds and comfortable chairs in a sitting area. There is a very good modern shower in a wet room. The kitchen is quite well equipped with hob, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave/oven. There was a kettle for brits, and a coffee maker. The village is quiet and attractive, with walks from the door. Parking is 100 metres away at the entrance to the village. The cottage was a bit difficult to identify so it is a good idea to ring Fabienne on arrival. Although it is remote it is only half an hour on decent roads to a main route whence many attractions: castles, wineries, restaurants, villages, gorges etc etc. We had poor weather but could happily have stayed longer, and might like to return, perhaps a bit later in the spring. Excellent value for money! Thank you Fabienne.
