Pontivy Holiday Homes

Make a holiday rental home or cottage in Pontivy, France your home away from home. Pontivy, France

Lying at the confluence of the Blavet River and the Canal of Nantes and Brest, the market town of Pontivy is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the whole of Brittany. The town has sites of historical interest, a stunning medieval quarter, some top holiday accommodation, a number of great cafes and restaurants and a bustling Monday morning market – essentially everything you could hope for when staying in this delightful part of France.

Things to do in Pontivy, France

Pontivy is revered for its market town status, and the local market is held every Monday. The stalls draw crowds from many miles around, and sell a variety of goods produced in the local region. Although it is possible to stock up the food supplies at your Pontivy holiday rental cottage or apartment from the supermarket, the edible produce sold at the market is generally of an even higher standard, and will allow you to experience all the delicious food that the area has to offer.

The town centre of Pontivy is essentially split in half, and contains an ancient medieval section and a newer side with more modern attractions. The medieval half is centred around the dominating Castle of Rohan which dates back to the 15th century, and contains a series of narrow, winding streets which house centuries-old family businesses and other old buildings such as the Church of St Joseph. After a great day of sightseeing a range of top cafes, bars and restaurants await you and will soon have you planning your next day of activity.

Outside of the town centre Pontivy is largely agricultural, and blessed with several kilometres of unspoilt greenery. Some of the best outdoor activities in Brittany can be enjoyed in the rolling hills, dense woodland and hiking trails found here, and mountain bikes are the method of choice for many who decide to explore the area.

Places to visit on holiday in Pontivy, France

Although Pontivy has many attractions you will likely wish to venture outside of the town during your stay. The Morbihan department has a number of smaller towns and villages which will provide you with yet another view of Brittany, with just two options being Locmine, 24km to the south-east, and Baud, 25km to the south-west.

Weather in Pontivy, France

The reason that the countryside that surrounds Pontivy remains so lush and green is the regular bouts of rainfall. This will not ruin a holiday in the town, however, and days of sunshine and clear skies are commonplace during spring, summer and early autumn. Winter temperatures are mild and some accommodation bargains can be had at this time of the year.

Travel to Pontivy, France

Those that wish to fly from the UK to France will likely best be heading to either Dinard Airport (DNR), 110km to the north-east, or Nantes Atlantique Airport (NTE), 167km to the south-east – both of which receive flights through budget airlines. Ferry is another option, with ports at St Malo and Roscoff. Hire car is the best way of getting to your Pontivy accommodation upon arrival.

Excellent Gite near the Brest/Nantes Canal

5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our short break staying in Rose Cottage with a warm welcome from Pauline and Tony. The gite is very well equipped and very comfortable. We stayed in Rose Cottage but Lavender Cottage looks equally as good. We liked the fact that the gites are only a 10 minute walk to the canal and cycling along the canal was a joy. The countryside is very scenic for walking or cycling with small and friendly bars/restaurants along the way. The local towns have all the shops you need for your stay. We can truly recommend staying at these gites and the whole area is delightful. We hope to return and will stay longer next time.
