Pont-Aven Holiday Homes

Make a holiday rental home or cottage in Pont-Aven, France your home away from home. Pont-Aven, France

Pont-Aven – a town famous for its role in the Rebellion of the Red Bonnets against Louis XIV in 1675 – is one of the more popular holiday rental destinations in the Quimper area of Brittany, France. It is a much loved destination by artists due to its associations with Post-Impressionist painters, but families will also find plenty to keep them entertained during the daytimes, before they return to the comforts of their Pont-Aven holiday rental cottage or apartment.

Things to do in Pont-Aven, France

Pont-Aven has long held a history as an artist’s haven, and once had strong links with famous French Post-Impressionist artists that include Paul Ganguin. This history is still in evidence today, as there are a number of art galleries to be enjoyed around the town. This includes both commercial galleries as well as the main public gallery.

If art is not really your thing there are still attractions to be had in Pont-Aven. The town is the home of some good quality restaurants, including a popular one which is housed in an old mill. Shops, cafés and bars are also in good supply, and with a couple of decent-sized supermarkets the self-caterer is well looked after in Pont-Aven.

The main draw of Pont-Aven, however, is often its location. The town is within close reach of a number of other interesting towns and villages, and the coast can be reached in just twenty minutes when travelling by car. The sandy stretches found at the coast are great for families, and a number of water sports options are usually available depending on your beach of choice.

Places to visit on holiday in Pont-Aven, France

Quimper (34km) is the principal city in the region, and most visitors to Pont-Aven like to spend at least a day in this old city which is best known for its twin-spire cathedral. There are many other towns and villages worth visiting though, with just two suggestions being Pont-Aven's neighbouring destination of Riec-sur-Belon (5km) and the fashionable seaside resort of Benodet (33km).

Weather in Pont-Aven, France

As it is not a million miles away from the south coast of England, the weather in Pont-Aven and the surrounding area can often be quite similar. Typically this means warm to hot summers, and cold, often wet winters. Spring and autumn are slightly warmer than the UK, so can also make for good holiday weather in Pont-Aven.

Travel to Pont-Aven, France

With no international airport in Brittany, many visitors heading to Pont-Aven from the United Kingdom elect to travel by way of ferry, usually from Plymouth, Poole or Portsmouth. Those intent on flying may be able to get a connecting flight from Paris Orly (ORY) to Quimper Airport (UIP), and will then need to make the 38km journey from Quimper to Pont-Aven by car.

A real rural retreat.

5 of 5
A charming cottage in a lovely rural location. We were made very welcome by our hosts, and we do hope to return at some time in the future. We did not get the best of weather during our visit but were still able to get to Pont-Aven, Concarneau etc. which are well worth visiting. A really peaceful holiday for us, and such charming hosts.
