The apartment is well furnished and modern. Two good sized bedrooms, the master bedroom has an exceedingly comfy bed. The kitchen is well stocked with practically everything one could want. The only things I missed not having included a salad shaker, a steamer and a few short sharp knives.
Once entering the apartment one immediately get the feeling of spaciousness. Sun pours through the sitting room windows. Just outside there is a suntrap of a terrace.
The bedrooms overlook the street but noise is minimal. The sitting area is comfortable and well furnished. A good sized bathroom. The tricky bit is the garage which has been mentioned in previous reviews. Necessary to have a small car as getting down and up from the second level is not that easy.
The old part of this Roman town is well worth a visit. Many of the impressionists lived in the area. The Matisse chapel is worth visiting as is the museum in the old town.
Many of Chagall's paintings are on display in the museum. Chagall spent a lot of time in Cotes d'Azur and eventually chose to live in this artistic centre. Fellow artists such as Matisse lived near St. Paul de Vence, Picasso in Vallauris.
In his later years Renoir moved to the warmer climes of Cagnes sur Mer where he died in 1919. His house is open to the public and is well worth the visit.
There is the Broad -Chauvin English library in the rue Sainte-Luce just off the Place Clemenceau in the old town. The library opens at 9.30-12 on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Holiday makers are more than welcome to borrow books during their stay. If one is interested in going to church St. Hughes Anglican church is also in Vence.
Markets are Tuesdays and Fridays and often there are street markets throughout the year.
Vence has many restaurants, and cafes where one can sit and watch the world go by.
Tourrettes-sur-Loup is worth stopping at on the way to Grasse known for its long-established perfume industry.
Vence combines the charm of a historical town with an exceptional mild micro-climate.
The town offers a great deal and combined with the lovely apartment any visitor would be more than happy to visit the former and stay happily in the latter.
We had a delightful week in Vence. Gareth and Joelle made us very welcome and any small problems were dealt with straight away. The house has been imaginatively decorated and is full of character. It was lovely to be able to start walking up the hills from the door of the house, but also it is very convenient for the beautiful town of Vence.
