Make a holiday rental villa or holiday home in Picardie, France your home away from home

Picardie (Picardy) is a delightful, rural region of Northern France, flanked by beaches to the north and charming agricultural regions to the south. This is one of France’s oldest provinces, steeped in history, and blessed with a charmingly laidback, almost timeless atmosphere which will relax visitors to the core.

Things to do in Picardie, France

Food and gastronomy are a very important part of life in Picardie. Tourist information guides are filled with pictures of fois gras and rissoles, and although these are absolutely mouth watering delicacies, the seafood, lamb (raised on salt marshes) and tarts should really not be missed. There are some excellent recipes to try in a Picardie holiday home, but if you would prefer to leave the cooking to the experts while you enjoy a glass of one of the famous local ciders, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from.

The amazing historical monuments across Picardie attract thousands of visitors from across Europe. Apparently the birthplace of the nation, Picardie not only has one of the most impressive collections of gothic cathedrals, but also a huge range of important sites to explore, from the fortified cities of Amiens, Abbeville and Peronne to the Battlefields of the Somme. Historical explorations from a Picardie holiday home must take in Amiens, the UNESCO accredited city, filled with wonderful old buildings.

The countryside of Picardie is a delight. With great stretches of beach backed by dramatic cliffs and deep sand dunes, beach lovers will be exceedingly happy living in a Picardie holiday home, and the 4,000 hectares of Lakeland and endless river stretches mean water sports, especially fishing, thrive in the region. Picardie is a maze of walking routes, running through salt marshes, thick forests and wide river mouths around which to walk and cycle. Walking, cycling and riding trail maps are readily available from the Picardie Tourist Information offices.

Beautiful holiday cottage in rural France

5 of 5
We have stayed in quite a few French gites over the years and this has to be our favourite property so far. Despite being very rural and in the middle of no-where, the property has been renovated to a high standard - the photos do not do it justice! A lot of thought and care has gone into equipping the property (especially the kitchen) with everything a family needs for a home away from home. There was space for us to all spread out and relax inside or out and the beds were particularly comfortable. The property owners live close by and were very friendly and helpful. We especially appreciated the welcome groceries left in the fridge on our arrival - a Godsend after a hellish journey. The only small downside was that there are no shops or anything of interest in the village, or the next village or even the one after that. The nearest place to buy bread and milk is a 10-15 minute drive away so a car is essential. There are plenty of places to visit within an hour’s drive - we particularly recommend Parc d’Isle near St Quentin, Castle of Coucy and the Resistance museum in Tergnier. We spent a lovely 10 days in this lovely property and we hope to re-visit again soon.

Gorgeous property!

5 of 5
This place is lovely. It’s actually a really big house, with a lovely big garden. It’s beautiful inside, full of character. The bedrooms are all big, it’s spotlessly clean and well equipped. The location is great for the surrounding area. A really gorgeous place, even better than it looks in the pictures!
