Make a holiday rental property or villa in Peyzac le Moustier, France your home away from home

The village of Peyzac le Moustier lies deep in the Dordogne countryside, located between the famous towns of Beynac, Sarlat, Domme and Perigueux. Ideally placed for a full exploration of the Dordogne, yet still wonderfully peaceful, a Peyzac le Moustier villa offers all that is best in the Dordogne.

Things to do in Peyzac le Moustier, France

Peyzac le Moustier is a tourist attraction in its own right, due to the amazing Le Roque St Christophe, a kilometre long cave which was hand carved into the solid rock face over 1,000 years ago. Le Roque St Christophe is certainly not the only pre-historic marvel in the region; the Dordogne is famous for its prehistoric cave paintings, dolmen and grottos. The many stunning medieval villages and ancient chateaux of Perigord Noir are testament to the long, turbulent and lucrative history of the region, and the vast majority of sites have been perfectly preserved for generations to come.

Wine tours are hugely popular from Peyzac le Moustier villas, as they not only allow you to sample the finest of the wines produced in the region (Perigord Noir gets its name from the rich colour of its wine grapes), but you also get to enjoy a tour of some of the most elegant and extravagant wine chateaux that adorn the landscape. There can be few places in the world more suited to food and wine lovers on holiday, as the gastronomy of the area is simply mouth-watering. There is an excellent choice of restaurants in the area, serving local delicacies, many of which are based on the fantastic fois gras, truffles and wild mushrooms that flourish in the wooded hills of Perigord Noir. Each village has a weekly market, which offers a perfect time to stock up with fresh ingredients should you wish to try your hand at cooking local cuisine from your self catering Peyzac le Moustier property.

The Dordogne is a rural department, offering an enormous range of walking, cycling, horse riding and canoeing routes to explore. The wooded hills and shaded valleys are perfect for exploring during the summer heat, and the rivers that have carved the landscape are perfect for a refreshing swim, canoe trip or an afternoon fishing. Fishing permits are available from local tabacs.

Places to visit on holiday in Peyzac le Moustier, France

The medieval town of Sarlat is an essential place to visit for anyone staying in Peyzac le Moustier accommodation for the first time. The town has been described as a ‘medieval and renaissance theme park’, which describes the town perfectly. The skyline is truly amazing, with ancient architecture so perfectly preserved that it is still used to this day. Tourist crowds can gather during the summer months, but tend to visit only during the middle of the day, allowing their tour busses to make it to their final destination by evening. This means that you can have the town to yourself during the evening, when the town looks at its most impressive.

Weather in Peyzac le Moustier, France

Staying in a Peyzac le Moustier cottage or gite during the summer months is an absolute joy, as temperatures are hot without becoming unpleasantly so. Daily peak temperatures during July and August rarely soar above 35˚C, but remain warm long into the evening, perfect for those long, leisurely dinners outside. The spring and autumn months are an excellent time to visit, as the tourist crowds have long dispersed, yet conditions are still blissfully warm.

Should Have Booked For Longer

5 of 5
Spent a week at Mulberry Tree Villa and should have booked for longer. We were met with a friendly and warm welcome from Linda and George. We traveled with parents and teenage children. The villa was very clean, spacious and perfect for our stay. The little extras Linda provides are so thoughtful, fresh eggs, milk, coffee, orange juice, wines, toiletries, and even bathrobes for every one. Linda tries to think of everything and goes above and beyond to try and make your stay perfect. The pool was a perfect way to cool off and relax after a day out sightseeing, and the views are so relaxing and beautiful. Plenty of room inside and out, with two very large patios for everyone to relax, plus a beautiful garden with lots of swings and benches to relax and read a good book. We could not have asked for a better centrally located place to enjoy the Dordogne, everything is literally minutes away. Looking forward to hopefully returning for a longer stay!

Truly Amazing !

5 of 5
Located in an unspoilt village in the Dordogne, with gorgeous panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The Butterfly cottage is equipped with everything you could ever need. The owners came and greeted us and were continuously checking whether there was anything more they could do for us when we ran into them. If nothing else, stay in the cottage for the bed alone. It is one of the best nights sleep my husband and I have ever had vacationing! The location is perfect if you want a quiet, peaceful base from which to explore the rest of the Dordogne. We visited local villages and attractions, as well as going on local walks and hikes. We would also recommend Dimitri, the most amazing French Chef. The meal he prepared for us was absolutely superb, one of the great highlights of our trip. We can not say enough great things about the Butterfly Cottage that have not already been said by the many other great reviews! Truly amazing what Linda and George have created.
