The photos do not do this house and it's grounds proper justice - it is a picture postcard rural French property, which if you love France is exactly what you're looking for. From the glow of the honey-stone walls to the soft green shutters, it is stunning. The house is well equipped and full of charm, beautifully decorated and adorned with interesting furniture. The bedrooms are huge and the bathrooms are all fitted with modern suites. The kitchen has everything you need for a comfortable holiday. The pool is stunning, extremely long and beautifully clear and warm. The large open barn is perfect for alfresco dining from breakfast to dinner - with lovely comfortable garden furniture, as well as providing extra shade although there is plenty of natural shade from the trees. The grounds are vast and totally private, wrapping round the property, perfect for kids of all ages. We were a party of 9, aged between 12 and 85 and it suited us perfectly, plenty of space for everyone and more! The surrounding countryside is beautiful, especially with all the sunflower fields adding a splash of colour and the local village at Bassoues is so pretty and has more to offer than most - two restaurants/bar - one selling bread, a small grocery shop, pottery and brocante shops, ladies clothes and accessory shop and even a hairdresser plus the Donjon tower - worth the climb for the view if you're up for it (197 steps up - so try and pick a cool time!). There's a swimming lake with sandy beach and restaurant/bar outside Lupiac about 20k away which is a great change of scene, plus Lupiac is very pretty (D'Artagnan's birth place). Simply lovely. We had a typically French lunch at the Auberge in neighbouring Montesquiou - 4 courses for 16 Euros including wine - they only do lunch and are closed on Saturdays though - very popular so book! All in all a wonderful holiday in a wonderful place. The owner, Sylvie was extremely helpful and friendly making all aspects of the booking so easy. Thank you.
We can’t thank Paul and Pam enough for making our stay in their fabulous gîte an extremely relaxing and enjoyable experience - so much so that we are already planning to return later this summer. The accommodation has an immaculate contemporary interior, is spotlessly clean and well equipped with everything you could possibly need for a stress-free and relaxing holiday. The welcome pack including water, milk, eggs, ham, cheese, bread (I may have forgotten something there was so much), Pam’s truly delicious home-made jams and chutneys and bottles of local wines was a very generous, kind and thoughtful touch that was very much appreciated. After a long drive it tasted all the more delicious – thank you! The pool area and accompanying views over the rolling landscape, neighbouring vineyards and fields of sunflowers makes the heart sing and provides a lasting memory of our time spent in a fabulous location. Our hosts were attentive, friendly and helpful but never intrusive, offering advice on the local area and cuisine. We were very sad to leave but we are definitely going to return. On the day we left Pam and Paul very generously included us on their day out, taking us to see the Tour de France as it passed through the local area. This was a truly special end to our holiday.
Thank you Paul and Pam for everything you have done to make our holiday special – see you soon.
