A Welcoming Winery

5 of 5
My wife and I spent three days at Clos Vieux Rochers and we could not have been happier with our choice. The property itself is peacefully situated on a quiet road in a beautiful area, close to St Emilion and other attractions yet away from it all. Owners Steve and Rob have clearly put a lot of heart (and sweat I'm sure) into the property. The cottage we stayed in was clean and comfortable with a tasteful decor and included everything one could ask of a self-catering unit. One of the highlights of our visit to the area was the the tour of the Clos Vieux Rochers Winery itself. The owners are passionate about making wine and seem to genuinely enjoy sharing the process with others. Whether it was answering my wife's questions about the finer points of wine making or explaining to me why a Bordeaux is a Bordeaux, Steve treated all our questions as equally important. We appreciated his sincere and genuine approach. If you choose to stay at Clos Vieux Rochers, you won't be disappointed. It's a charming place. Well done gentleman. Thanks again, Scott and Betty

Large typically French style Village house

4 of 5
So for the house, it has a large living room, well equipped kitchen, with a pool table in the living room, tons of fun. For the older folks, please note that stairs are plentiful as it's four stories. Top floor access is particularly steep and winding, and you walk straight into the top floor bathroom with no door from the stairs so you have to make your presence known whilst using the loo. From the upstairs bathroom you go into a large bedroom and then another large bedroom.....no corridors and all interconnecting from the bathroom so it's an intimate sharing experience. Downstairs bathroom off the living room was a good size but the shower head over the bath didn't stay in place and there was no bath plug so we bought one from a market. The lower bedroom (two floors below the upper bedrooms) provides access to the main usable outdoor space which is the enclosed balcony with gorgeous views over the valley. The garden isn't really the place to sit comfortably. The lower bedroom has two single beds which were pushed together to create a king, but which slid apart during the night. The hosts are charming and left us wine bread and sausage, very kind. There are lots of village walks and it's a great location to explore. Close to Bergerac or Bordeaux for flights. The village bakery is three doors down and provides delicious croissants and bread. The two village restaurants are competitively priced and provide delicious food. And great for those who want to walk home, literally both are yards away. The tourist office in the town was often open and the lady there was extremely helpful.
