  • Spectacular and charming tranquility
    4 of 5

We were a group of 19 musicians from the age of 11 to 18 with 9 adults. This was a beautiful place for us to stay, completely undisturbed. With enormous and beautifully tended gardens, a swimming pool, games room and plenty of space this was exactly what we had hoped for and more! Chateau La Douve is an historic building, so don't come here expecting air-conditioning - but the tranquility you get in return is completely priceless. There was more than enough consumer electronics in the form of flatscreen TVs and espresso machines to make up for the tranquility if that is what keeps you happy :) Add peacocks and exotic farm animals to the mix and you really have a fabulous getaway. The kitchen was small, but we managed perfectly with a little planning. The grill by the pool was fabulous. The balcony behind the castle has an incredibly scenic view of the pool and the village beyond. The owner, Rene was totally charming. We received lots of help from two locals who really helped to make this a memorable stay

  • Wonderful, well equipped rural gîte perfect for families.
    5 of 5

I hired this gîte for my family to stay while they attended our wedding weekend in nearby Grez-Neuville. Although the gîte owners were away during the period of rental, they organised for a friend, Mathilde to assist us during the stay. I cannot speak more highly of Mathilde. Nothing was too much trouble, she helped me to organise taxis for my family, organised for towels to be provided at late notice (I had got myself confused and believed that they were part of the linen package, totally my mistake) and was generally incredibly welcoming and friendly. Both Mathilde and the owner Guylaine communicated in excellent English and were genuinely a pleasure to deal with. The gîte itself was beautiful, clean and well equipped. The garden and views were stunning. My neices (and daughter!) Really appreciated the trampoline and table-football table. The gîte is very rural and the nearest village was very, very quiet (pretty much closed due to the August holidays) but just what my family were looking for so for us this was no problem. The one and only complaint (and it wasnt really a complaint!) from my family was that they would have liked enough larger teacups for people.. but i think that this is only down to us being English and liking our tea in the mornings!! You can't fit a good cup of English tea in a French coffee cup! But that is the tiniest thing and would definitely not ever stop us from thoroughly recommending your gîte!! Thank you. Xx
