  • A lovely little quiet hideaway in a great part of rural France

The property is perfect for a couple and has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break in the countryside. It is very well located for exploring many areas and wonderful places of interest within reasonable travelling distance. Also, the historic town of La Charite is right on the doorstep and there is much to see and explore without the need to use your car. We did not use the many and varied restaurants in the town, preferring to take advantage of the lovely garden and barbeque our own meals with the produce available locally at the good range of shops. The owner and her family are delightful, friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble and Sylvie manages to be there with help and advice when needed and also keep very discreet to enable us to take full advantage of the facilities without intruding on our privacy. We would definitely recommend this Gite and would happily return should we wish to visit this part of France in the future.

  • Well situated and appointed property with great grounds in lovely countryside.

We had a really enjoyable week staying at 'La Chouette'. The property worked very well for a family group of two couples and one baby. It was lovely having the main refurbished farmhouse with its excellent open plan and modern kitchen, dining and living space, as well as the cute 'piggery' perfect for two people to retire to or to have a bit of privacy. The property has lots of space inside and out, and we loved sharing meals at the large tables, playing in the games barn and enjoying the terrace with bbq. Having the garden back right onto farms and countryside is fantastic and we enjoyed the peace, quiet and sunsets, as well as watching the antics of the local wildlife - cows, horses, chickens, geese, goats, donkey, bats, swallows and other birds. The only downside was the pesky flies but you are in the countryside! Moulins-Engilbert is extremely handy to have so nearby. It has everything you need and even towards the end of the season when a few places were already closed up, always seemed bustling with people frequenting the local shops and bars. The Morvan is pretty, fairly sleepy and good for a relaxing getaway. If you enjoy walking, there's plenty nearby and we visited some places within the Morvan and further afield (45 mins - 1 hour 15 mins) such as the lakes, Vezelay and Autun. Pets are not allowed at the property but the owners do have a dog which was staying just prior to us arriving. Worth considering if allergies is a concern. Smooth booking and good communication with the owners and in-country support/house-keeping. We'd recommend.
