Summer stay in St. Jean d'Aulps

4 of 5
We had a very pleasant 2 week family summer holiday in this apartment in St. Jean d'Aulps. The apartment itself was cosy, clean and very well-equipped. The kids loved the availability of all the games and enjoyed sleeping in the mezzanine, it felt to them like they had their own 'apartment' up there. I myself was very happy with the kitchen and availability of pots and pans and crockery. The balcony is a bit smallish, but great for a family breakfast or afternoon tea. We enjoyed the view over the mountain from there and the birds flying on and off were very entertaining to watch. The swimming pool was a big hit with the kids. We have never skied ourselves and have never visited a ski area in summer before, so we were not sure what to expect from a summer holiday in the alps. Our expectations have been highly exceeded. There are so many things to do in the area during summer! The ski lifts make the area very accessible and nice for walking, I can highly recommend the walk to/from Pointe de Nyon. We went for a canyoning trip in Cascade de Nyon (booked via Bureau de Guides in Morzine), this was a thrilling adventure! In Morzine plenty of activities are organised for families during the summer holidays. For both young and older children. Still plenty of things to be discovered...we will be back (in summer!).

Great chalet for a family

5 of 5
The chalet was just as we hoped it would be. It was clean and ready for us on arrival. The downstairs is open plan and spacious, with enough seating for our family of six. The bedrooms are comfortable and all have a balcony. It was very warm during our stay - the house doesn't have air conditioning but it does have shutters on all windows which help keep the house cool. The house is well equipped and there was nothing missing that we would have wanted. The washing machine and dryer are great and meant we could travel light on the plane knowing that we could wash clothes during our stay. There are wonderful views of the Dent d'Oche and surrounding mountains from inside the house and the garden. The garden is nothing fancy, but has a decked area and then a reasonable sized grass area for small ball games for kids. My kids were concerned about the lack of WiFi at the chalet. Between us we had phones on UK contracts with EE, 3 and Virgin. All of us had a phone connection at the house, but data roaming only worked well at the house on our EE and 3 phones - the Virgin mobiles struggled to get a good enough connection for data. We didn't meet Alex, but communication about our stay was easy. Bernex is a lovely village and the chalet is well located to walk to the small Casino supermarket, the great local bakery, the tourist info office and other helpful places. As a family we really enjoyed a day out a 'Plage de la Beunaz' in a neighbouring village and spent many days at the main outdoor pool in Evian which is a fantastic place. We also visited Lavey Les Bains spa baths in Switzerland which was a great day out and we also visited Nestlé's Maison Cailler chocolate factory which is surprisingly cheap and includes more chocolate tasting than you can cope with! Obviously the mountains are fabulous for walking.
