A property to be highly recommended

Just returned home following a wonderful stay of 10 weeks at this lovely gite.Nadege & her husband are a lovely couple as are Nadege's parents who live in the house just behind the property. The gite is located on the crest of a valley & enjoys unimpeded views to the other side from a glorious terrace & garden.Le Bugue, the nearest town for shopping, is just a 15 min. drive away & is well served by 3 supermarkets , restaurants, banks etc. The gite is within easy reach of all the major tourist attractions in this beautiful part of the Dordogne & for walkers there is a tremendous network of circular routes which are well sign posted - a map is available from tourist offices. Overall everything about the area & the gite made this a very memorable holiday for us & our dog & without any hesitation we highly recommend it. Kay & Stuart , Blairgowrie , Scotland

Perfect hosts, perfect holiday

5 of 5
We chose the Butterfly Cottage for a relaxing break after a busy year getting married and moving house. We couldn't have made a better choice. Linda and George's (and Roosevelt's!) hospitality was second to none - they were integral to ensuring our stay was as enjoyable as possible. As we're keen bikers, the weather during the week was perfect - sunny and around 24 degrees and we managed to clock up over 160km during the course of our holiday. The bike rides themselves were fantastic thanks to George who plotted the routes using his local knowledge of the area. We can particularly recommend the ride which took us past a number of beautiful chateaus. The pool and jacuzzi were perfect for unwinding after a long day on the bikes - and the heated pool is a real luxury in mid September! Another highlight of the week was Dmitri, the local chef who came to cook for us one evening. We both agree that it was the best meal we've ever had (and that's including Michelin starred restaurants!) - my soufflé and scallop starter was delicious, and the apple tart dessert simply divine! Dmitri is a must for anyone staying at the Butterfly Cottage - you won't regret it! We can't wait to return in the near future. Sophie & Doug

Highly recommended

1. Beautiful location with great views 2. Great to be close to the village (small and sleepy but with good market, 2 bakeries, butcher/traiteur, restaurant, bars...) 3. House is very comfortable and just about the best equipped we have ever stayed in 4. Hosts are terrific and gave us some excellent recommendations, perfectly tailored to our interests 5. Close to so many stunning places to visit (Sarlat, Roque-Gageac, Domme) that as week just won't be long enough 6. Lots of good walks close by - also well signed cycle routes and quiet, safe roads 7. But also perfect for doing nothing, sitting by the pool in the sunshine with a pastis listening to birdsong or curling up in front of the woodburner with a book 8. For foodlovers, the place is paradise with inspiring markets to buy local, seasonal food; a well equipped kitchen to prepare it and a choice of indoor and outdoor dining space to enjoy leisurely meals 9. For a break from cooking there are lots of good restaurants - not least the Auberge in the village - four courses for under 13 euros (including soup which came in a tureen not just a bowl, similarly the cheese course was presented in whole pieces to cut off as much as liked and wine included) 10. At the end of the day, beds of deep comfort - we slept for hours in peace
