  • A great value base to explore the region

No complaints. Great value, if ‘basic’, property that is very comfortable for up to 5 persons in the nice town of Sarrebourg which was well placed for exploring the Alsace and the edge of Black Forest over the border in Germany. The stairs in the property are very steep which people with mobility issues or small kids should be aware of (I do recall seeing a stair gate though). Whilst by no means a ‘show stopper’, although there were some garden chairs available, there didn’t appear to be an outside table to accompany them. I was under the impression from the listing that there was Wi Fi at the property but there was not. My recollection of the listing may be wrong though. The owner was very pleasant and helpful, however didn’t speak any English but nonetheless my smattering of French seemed to help us communicate well enough. Have stayed in gites and the alike all over France and this was great value for money.

Arrival was fine, the owner met us at the driveway. He gave us a bottle of wine on arrival, and gave us a quick tour of the apartment, as well as telling us a few things around the area and good places to go. The apartment was fine, though because of the high ambient temperatures during out stay (above 30 Deg C) it was hot inside, and we couldn’t open the windows wide at night due to insects, so we were hot at night. The kitchen was small but perfectly adequate, though would benefit from oven gloves! The location is really nice and quiet, with a morning walk to the Boulanger is making a good start to the day. You really need a car to tour the area and surroundings.
