Great half-term ski holiday at Heather's apartment

5 of 5
We stayed for half-term, 2 Dads and 3 teenage kids so there was plenty of space for everyone. Our first impression was how clean the apartment was with beds all prepared and plenty of fluffy white towels available (very unusual for French rentals). The only items that weren't there that we could have done with were bathmats (which were subsequently delivered) and tea towels (fortunately we had one packed). The 3 double bedrooms are of a good size, and my boys enjoyed the alcove room with 2 sets of rustic bunk beds. Being teenagers they did complain that there weren't any sockets in that area to keep their phones and ipads running, but probably a good thing ! The rest of the apartment is very well equipped with cupboards, large fridge freezer, convection hob etc.. Even a washing machine that we didn't use. Just be aware that there isn't any TV, just a TV and DVD player. Our only real issue was that the small lane to the entrance to the apartment was very icy so we couldn't drive up it. The apartment is on the 5th floor at the far end to the entrance and unfortunately the week we were there (including when we arrived) the only lift was out of order more often than working. A minor irritation. The technician seemed to be there constantly and as soon as he had it working it would break down again. The apartment is very convenient for skiing from the door - don't walk up to the bubble but ski down to main chair in Les Coches. Whist we were there the snow conditions were superb, but the weather was a real mixed bag - snow, wind, fog, rain(!), and some very nice sunny days. If planning to take the Vanoise Express over to Les Arcs be aware that there is a single chair to get our of Peisey which was a bit of a bottle neck. We loved the runs through the trees back down into Les Coches which were in perfect condition. One of my sons managed to find many different routes down off-piste between trees. On the rainy day we took the bubble down to Montchavin for lunch which was well worth it as it's a lovely traditional farming village with good old farmyard smells and cows in basements below luxury ski chalets ! We ate out in Les Coches a few times, La Poya being our favourite for traditional Savoyarde cuisine. Note that we walked up and down to the centre which takes about 15 mins down and about 20 back up. Overall a great stay and we would highly recommend Heather's apartment

Lovely cosy apartment right on the slopes

5 of 5
We had a lovely holiday in this wonderful little apartment. We are a family of four and it was ideal with enough space to relax, cook, eat and store all our stuff. The apartment was really well equipped, nice and warm and has fantastic storage areas. It is located in the Chantel area, just uphill of the main part of Arc 1800. You can ski in and out easily. Drop down to the Vagere lift to quickly get up and across to Vallandry/TransArc or walk up a little way and go across to Carrelley to get over into Arc 1950/2000. Coming back, just keep to the right of the Alpage run and you can ski directly to the chalet. There are a couple of ski rental shops in the Chantel area - we used the skiset one just around the corner and it worked well. There is a small shop (The Next Door) that sells bread/pastries in the complex and a very small supermarket (Le Petit Marche) one block further up the hill. Also a couple of restaurants - we went to the Voga Goga bar for lunch most days, it was good food and quite reasonably priced (for a ski resort). If you want a bigger supermarket you need to go down to 1800 proper where there is a Spar and Sherpa. You can take the Dahu cable car (which isn't on the piste map for some reason) which runs late into the evening. We were there at Feb half term and the queue back up was around 20mins which a little long in the cold!! We ended up driving down to the village where you can park pretty close to the Spar and picking up heavy items (water, beer, OJ, wine etc.) in one go. Another option if you have a car is to go the Lidl in Bourg St Maurice. This was our first visit to Les Arcs and loved the ski area. It is massive and has a great set of reds and blues. Queues at half term were surprisingly good, a few ten min waits at Derby/Grizzly. We avoided the bottom TransArc station - go up Vagere and ski across to the mid station to get on quickly. The Bellecote gondola was a cold 25min wait. We only did Aquille Rouge at lunch time as that is a slow queue at any time. Only minor negatives: - The ski locker was inconvenient being a couple of levels downstairs - Getting the cable car to the supermarkets was a bit of a pain (other options above though) - The second bedroom is a double, not a twin (my fault for not looking) but would be good to have had two duvets so siblings could share without arguing - our son ended up sleeping on the sofa which was fine. - No wi-fi in the building - I think they are working on this.
