  • Brilliant. A super stay tucked away in the pyrenean hills in a delightful village

Before we set off and in the months leading up to our break, I was very happy with the level of contact we had with the owners. Kay graciously and unsolicited provided plenty of details about the area, things to do and see and made some recommendations of what to do too. We arrived on a blazing hot Saturday afternoon in August, on the slopes of the mountains. As we drove through the very narrow winding streets of Rigarda admiring the houses, we rounded a corner to a beautiful, peaceful, planted up paved area next to the house. We were impressed. The setting was superb, the house is sympathetically modernised but keeps features of the older house. It was immaculately clean throughout too. Every room has a bathroom to itself and we never felt in each others pockets. The kitchen was well equipped and had a good store of dry goods, tea and coffee for guests. Plenty of crockery and cooking equipment to help cater over the week. Washing and drying facilities too. We spent some relaxing afternoons on the patio, enjoying meals and sunbathing. The local area has plenty to visit, it is not too far from the coast and if you are willing to drive there is much to be explored locally. Villefranche De confluent is close and is also near an underground grotto. The grotto was wonderfully cool in the summer and very popular! We also found the neighbours welcoming and spent an evening in conversation (in our rudimentary French) with them and the mayor, enjoying a beer. A splendid place, as a base, to enjoy our holiday at. We would definitely come again.

  • Smart apartment in picturesque village made us instantly feel welcome.

Our first visit to this region of France. We found the property easily following excellent directions from owner. The apartment was very well equipped with everything needed to make it feel 'home from home'. The style of decor was tasteful and its fair to say that we spent a considerable part of our holiday at the apartment, eating some meals on the patio. The view of Pic De Canigou provides a stunning backdrop to this picturesque village. The maze of winding alleyways provide a multitude of different routes up to the church/restaurants and back. The village, whilst looking beautiful, has very few facilities. It took us a while to discover the nearest Boulangerie and supermarket (Prades). We're still not sure we understand the opening hours of shops! This would have been useful info to acquire in advance as we arrived on Sunday. The two restaurants (one bar/cafe style and one Tapas bar) were both well-positioned and a pleasure to visit. We found Eus to be a superb base from which to explore the area and visited Villefranche De Conflent, Abbaye St Martin, Castelnou, etc. We now wish to return with walking gear to explore the mountains a little more closely. Thank you for a fantastic holiday.
