  • Rural Normandy at its best without being far from eateries, shops and an interesting bell foundry.

Excellent communication with Paul and Lisa before we travelled meant we had no difficulty finding the lovely cottage. We were welcomed by Paul and 'Buster', who proved to be the hit of the week, in spite of him not being around all the time. The cottage was immaculately presented, very well equipped, and comfortable. Paul and Lisa had recommended a few local restaurants, though their favourite was closed for refurbishment. No worries as the alternatives were absolutely fine, 'Le Fruitier', La Cuisine De Leonie, and Restaurant L'Atelier. The recommended boulangerie was superb, and the lady at the counter soon realised I was a tourist and provided us with delicious daily croissants and pain au raisins! The Carrefour Express was sufficient for our needs. Most places of interest to us were within 40 - 90 minutes drive, from Mont St Michel to Bayeux, Pegasus Bridge to Falaise and William the Conqueror's castle, and not forgetting Arromanches and Omaha Beach. We did them all, and would certainly come back again in the future, as long as Buster would have us! There is much more to see in Normandy, and The Stables Cottage is ideally located to tour the area. A unique amusement was the robot lawn mowers. They kept us amused for ages if there was any time left for amusement after full days exploring, eating and drinking. A really enjoyable week in October when the weather was mainly summery with temperatures around the 24 degrees mark, and coats were only needed on a few mornings, and were soon dispensed with. Thank you so much Paul and Lisa, I think we will be returning if you will have us.

We spent two weeks in La Jouverie – a truly beautiful Normandy farmhouse. It has large rooms fitted and furnished to an extremely high standard with oak beams everywhere and lots of stone. We loved the country kitchen with range cooker and high ceiling. The grounds and gardens are huge (and a bird lover’s paradise) so you have complete privacy yet it’s a short walk in to the village where you can buy bread and everyday supplies from the village shop or share a drink and a chat with the locals in the bar in the evening. The lovely historic Villeduieu-les-poeles is a 15 min drive away and has loads of things to do and visit. We loved the restaurants and the bell foundry and the copper pan workshops and the Tuesday market is a food lovers delight! The location is perfect for walks and we used it as our base to visit the Normandy landing beaches, Bayeaux, and Mont St Michel. The family absolutely loved it! A real favourite was collecting mussels on the beaches at Les Salines and cooking them when we got home. We’ll definitely be back to explore more of this lovely part of France. And thank you Emma for your helpful info pack giving us your insights in to some of the more off the beaten track places to visit and eat at.
