Good base for a relaxing break, made more relaxing by having a secure parking place.

4 of 5
Although I have stayed in St Valery many times over the last 20 years the apartment was new to me. I was attracted by the clean modern look in the photos and by the underground parking space.( I was last in St Valery in 2016 and spent 80 € on car parking during the week.) When I arrived the apartment looked lovely. I was met by the owner, M. Robert who has very good English, and shown where to park my car, the entrance area and security, importantly the waste bin area and then up to the apartment which is small, but well laid out. I had taken the linen package and appreciated the matching bed linen and towels. The small balcony is a sunny space to enjoy a glass of wine. The apartment is landlocked and does not have river or sea views, but I knew this when I booked and as the walk into the centre (10 minutes at most) is along the river it was not an issue. The weather in Northern France is much like that in Southern England. I have never been in St Valery for a week without having at least one day of rain. This time there was quite lot of rain but there were also plenty if sunny spells. St Valery is a place to pootle, and there is plenty to see within easy walking distance. There are good food shops and a mini supermarket just below the high town and many restaurants. The sights include the church of St Valery, usually open on Sunday afternoon, the Herbarium - an incredibly beautiful garden, the high town, Musee Picarve and the Chemin de Fer. The trip around the Baie to Le Crotoy is lovely and the aray of narrow gauge steam and diesel trains is a delight. Further away, and needing a car journey is the Parc du Marquenterre where not only is there a huge variety of migrating birds but a beautiful landscape full of wild flowers. St Valery is a good place for a relaxing holiday and this apartment is a good base.

Great location in the dunes

5 of 5
This is a wonderful beach house, literally you are on the beach as it is built into the dunes. Ideally situated slightly away from the main Quend Plage beach it is only a short walk through the dunes to a fabulous and huge sandy beach which disappears out of sight in both directions. It is also dog friendly and early morning and evening walks were a delight. The house was spotlessand is modern and fully equipped, comfortable seating, TV and DVD player, plus an excellent fully equipped kitchen. Out side (which is the front) a patio table plus the use of 4 deck chairs and a BBQ. M & Mme Brico were very friendly and explained everything, we had to apologise for our poor French! The weather was amazing rising to 36C on the Wednesday which frankly is too hot!!. Plenty to see in the Somme area although the heat did actually curtail too much walking - our dog went on strike. Found some good restaurants all over the Baie de Somme area. Would I recommend it? Without hesitation! One note worth mentioning, the stairs are steep, they would be difficult for children, the infirm or the elderly. A baby gate is provided however.
