Menton holiday apartments are sited right on the French border with Italy, in a town often known as the 'Pearl of France'. Most of the Cote d'Azur has the Alps as a backdrop, but around Menton, the southern Alps tumble directly into the sea. Menton holiday rental are part of a historical fishing town, now grown into a popular tourist resort. It's steeped in history with a couple of fascinating museums to explore, as well as some pretty palm-lined beaches to enjoy. Menton accommodation is also handy for the French and Italian Alps, and activities such as skiing, hiking or climbing.

Things to do

Outdoor pursuits: With the mountains right by the sea, there's a tremendous choice of Alpine pursuits and watersports to enjoy right on the doorstep of Menton holiday rentals. The fishing industry has given way to marinas, a sailing school, and the usual equipment hire outlets, though fishing itself is a popular activity for tourists.

Beaches: The seafront of Menton is beach, almost all the way to Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, where HomeAway has a further range of holiday homes. Bordered by attractive boulevards, there is plenty of space for families. The atmosphere is relaxed and kid friendly, compared to more exclusive stretches of the Cote d'Azur, and catered to by a variety of beach clubs.

Nightlife: The chic and affluent Monaco and Monte Carlo are just a few miles to the southwest, so those with a taste for the finer things in life have a tremendous opportunity to indulge themselves. For a quieter time, Menton has its own discerning choice of casinos, restaurants and bars to enjoy, centreing on La Place aux Herbes.

Shopping: Menton has a historic covered market that opens every day from 5am to 1pm (5.30am in the winter). There's also a fruit and flower market. Antique traders set up stalls next to the main market on Fridays, and a flea market takes place every Saturday.

Culture: The Basilica of Saint-Michel-Archange dominates the town, featuring 17th-century architecture and attracting 100,000 visitors a year. Menton is also famous for its subtropical gardens, especially the Jardin Serre de la Madone and Jardin Botanique Exotique de Menton, which are both the product of British influence during the 19th century. Museums of note include the Bastion and Jean Cocteau Museums.

Nice Cote d'Azur Airport is 22 miles away, which can be traversed via train or bus if needed. Nice has the second-busiest airport in France, so all the major carriers fly here, including a comprehensive range of budget operators. The south of France is driveable from the UK, too, taking only a couple of days if the starting point is the southeast of England. The trip is also amply doable on the train; with good connections. it's possible to get from London to Nice in around nine hours.

                                                                                                      A clean and well presented flat, close to town center, beach and amenities such as supermarket. We utilized the sofa bed, whilst our children shared the main bedroom along with a travel cot which was provided. Air conditioning worked and was well used during our stay. The flat was well equipped, especially in the kitchen, though we tended to eat out for most meals. Shower was easy to use, with ample supply of hot water.

                                                                                                      We enjoyed our stay at Villa Christie. The outside areas were the best part and we spent a lot of time out there. It was very peaceful and relaxing. The plunge pool was perfect. The two bathrooms and kitchen were very good but the second bedroom was basically partitioned from the main living area by a book shelf, so we don't think that the property would be suitable for two couples. There was very little hanging space. Could have done with a proper welcome pack on arrival with basic contents i.e. Milk, bread, butter, eggs but only had a bottle of Muscat wine, sparkling water and tomato juice. It meant we had to go and find a supermarket after a tiring day of travelling. When we mentioned it to Michele, she said we could have asked for specific items. You will need an understanding of French too as most information and contact was in French. My O'level French came in handy! If you are driving to the property, beware that there are several hairpin bends to contend with on the way up and lots of one way streets in Menton! On-street parking in the town was very difficult but we used the main underground car parks, especially the one near the Marina. Most of our issues were fairly minor and overall we would recommend this property.
