Make a holiday rental chalet or villa in Megeve, France your home away from home

The charming, traditional ski resort of Megeve, France is found nestled in the Rhone-Alps, huddled around the prominent, medieval church. A distinct favourite of the French elite, Megeve is a laid-back, stylish and lavish resort, where village life is almost as important as the magnificent skiing. Megeve could have been lifted straight from a film-set, with snow capped roof tops sheltering romantic streets filled with gourmet restaurants and the sound of horse-drawn sleighs whisking people back to their luxury chalet or villa in Megeve. However, a Megeve apartment is not only popular in winter; summers from a Megeve villa offer plenty of excellent entertainment and leisure options.

Things to do in Megeve, France

The surrounding Alpine pastures and forested slopes are a favourite during the winter. Megeve skiing holidays are excellent for those wishing to tackle off-piste skiing, and there are plenty of testing pistes, although Megeve skiing is not ideal for experts. Over 75% of pistes are allocated for beginners and intermediates, and if you are looking to a luxury chalet in Megeve for your first skiing holiday, prepare to return to Megeve accommodation for many years to come! Snowboarders will be very happy too, as there are two snow parks and a half pipe for your enjoyment.

Even if you take a Megeve villa and never ski, there is a huge amount of options to entertain you. If you can bear to leave the idyllic streets of the town centre, visitors can swim in an indoor pool, ice-skate, go bowling, play tennis, tackle 75kms of cross country skiing trails, go para-gliding or take a ride in a hot air balloon. There are also climbing walls, charter flights over Mont Blanc and a beauty spa to enjoy. Evenings in Megeve are fantastic. With a range of bars, restaurants, clubs and folklore nights, as well as a casino, there should be no trouble finding evening entertainment after a hard days activity.

During the summer months, Megeve somehow becomes even more beautiful. Window boxes explode with colour as flowers bloom and Mont Blanc looks stunning in the background. Lake Combloux is one of the focal points of Megeve in summer, as there is a small, artificial beach on its banks. The huge chutes of the outdoor pools are a huge attraction for family holidays, and the mountains offer endless opportunities for activity. The beautiful peaks which lie in the shadow of Mont Blanc are ideal for walking, mountain biking and riding holidays, whilst the mountain streams gush with melt water and the occasional white water raft, filled with delighted visitors. A summer villa in Megeve also allows you to go fishing (both lake and river), play golf or take a scenic flight over the Alps, in either a plane or hot air balloon.

Places to holiday in Megeve, France

Skiing from a Megeve chalet or villa will not entertain expert skiers for the whole season, but there is excellent access to the resorts of Combloux, Cote 2000 and Les Contamines, giving those staying in Megeve accommodation over 200 miles of piste to choose from.

Weather in Megeve, France

Megeve, France is very different in winter than it is in summer. Temperatures during the day time in winter are regularly around -5?C, meaning good snow conditions, but in summer, temperatures are surprisingly warm, hovering around 20?C.

Beautiful, well proportioned apartment in an ideal location

5 of 5
We stayed here at the beginning of April, 6 adults and 2 young children. The apartment is beautiful - everything is done to a very high standard and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The layout works really well with room for everyone to relax. The kitchen is the best stocked kitchen I've ever stayed in and it's clear that this has been well thought through. Having a washing machine and dryer was really helpful with young children too. The boot room downstairs is very handy, as is the supply of wood. The location is perfect for 2 ski lifts (cut through the car park lift) and there's a local shop that sells fresh bread on the next road. The (steep) walk down into town is beautiful and there are also buses fairly regularly. Megeve itself is stunning and somewhere I would highly recommend. Communication with the owner was excellent throughout and all my questions were answered promptly, including during our stay. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Perfect location (so long as you like to enjoy some peace and quiet!) and HUGE living areas!

5 of 5
We stayed here for a long weekend in early Feb '17 having been attracted mainly by St Gervais' close proximity to Geneva airport (just a 1 hour transfer time) and also by the chalets secluded location. We were not disappointed on either score! The chalet is about 200 m above the little hamlet of Le Bettex where you'll find a few restaurants, two mini-markets, ski hire shops and the telecabine up to the main ski areas. If you want noisy nightlife this is certainly not the place for you but if, like us, you want some peace and quiet away from everyone else with stunning views of Mont Blanc and a self-catering chalet with by far the biggest communal living areas we have ever enjoyed (and we have visited many) then you will love this place. It couldn't be more truly 'ski in, ski out' as it is right next to an easy slope down to Le Bettex and also just 20m from a button lift route. So getting back to it anytime is a doddle. There is no road to the chalet and so arrival and departure is by way of skimobile transfer arranged by the owners. They are absolutely charming and couldn't be more helpful both in advance and during your stay. They also run a mountain restaurant on the slopes just a few hundred yards from the chalet which we regularly visited for some great food and drinks. Bear in mind that as access is limited to either a brisk 15 minute walk up or by arrangement by skimobile before 9am or after 5.30pm, you will need to factor this in to your plans for shopping etc. Isabelle very kindly did some shopping for us prior to our arrival and again arranged to collect our bags from Le Bettex after our main shopping trip to bring it up to the chalet during our stay. The mini-markets in Le Bettex aren't huge but were fine for everything we needed for good but simple cooking. We loved the place so much that we ate in every night (a stiff G&T on the patio looking out to Mont Blanc at sunset or inside by the wood fire in the very large open plan living area every evening was too tempting to want us to leave!) but it would be easy enough to walk down to a restaurant in Le Bettex if you wanted and didn't mind a brisk night time walk back up afterwards. The skiing is of course less extensive and challenging as you would find in The Three Valleys etc (and not as high so snow conditions can be more variable) but still plenty to explore and keep you busy. We enjoyed our stay so much that we went back for a repeat trip just a month later! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
