Make a holiday rental gite or property in Mayenne, France your home away from home

The quiet, rural department of Mayenne lies between the Loire Valley and southern Normandy, in the Western Loire, which has been declared as a ‘cultural landscape of exceptional beauty’ by UNESCO. It is a peaceful department where eating well, enjoying the countryside and unwinding slowly are the favoured pastimes for holiday makers staying in self catering Mayenne properties or gites.

Things to do on holiday in Mayenne, France

The northern part of Mayenne, France, is protected by the boundaries of the Parc Naturel Regional de Normandie et Maine, which is a huge area of unspoilt forested hills, which draw tourists to Mayenne properties from across Europe to walk, ride and cycle through the hugely attractive scenery. Cycling from town to town is a highly enjoyable way to explore from a Mayenne property, but you can also choose to go by car or boat is you do not feel you have the energy to cycle!

The rivers which cross the park and the Mayenne River which crosses the department are teeming with fish, and throughout the fishing season, anglers and fisherman can be seen trying their luck along the banks or wading in the shallows of the many rivers which gently meander through the countryside.

There is a strong sense of history throughout Mayenne, with frequent reminders of the department’s rough past throughout both town and country. The Roman town of Les Jublains is the best place to visit from a Mayenne gite to see remnants of the past. There are Roman temples, baths and a huge theatre on view in Les Jublains, and are well worth visiting.

Wonderful location

4 of 5
Loved this location and Sue made us very welcome, and we really appreciated the lovely meal she cooked for us on the first night of our stay, it’s a comfortable little house and well equipped, although a better fridge is needed. Sue’s “family “ Rory, Ruby, slipper and daisy hamlet and the girls are great company we hope to return one day and catch up with everyone, all the best Sue have a wonderful summer.

lovely quiet rural longere with lots of facilities close to small town with supermarket

5 of 5
It was lovely staying in this house in France, many thanks to Sue the owner for the excellent communication regarding the stay and to Veronica who let us in and was patient with our questions and so helpful about all things regarding the property and suggestions if we wanted to go and explore. We had a great chill out for a couple of days just sitting in the sunshine with a glass or two of fizzy following a busy two or three weeks traveling through Spain and France. It was very quiet and secluded which was exactly what we both needed. Lots of free parking on the grassed area immediately outside the property. Range of shops and a Supermarket available in nearby Pre on Pail. Within striking distance to Le Mans, which is one of our aims for our next visit to the area. Good bathroom and shower with lots of hot water. Big kitchen with all the appliances etc and a washing machine. Three good sized bedrooms, plenty of lounge space and a TV with a free satellite arrangement so you can watch some uk TV channels if you want Property within a couple of hours of the cross channel ferries so relatively easy to get back for your sailing.
