Marnac is a small French commune of around 200 residents in the Dordogne department of Aquitaine. Visit the Museums
The area around Marnac is rich in prehistoric sites and cave paintings. Many of the exhibits found in the area are on display in the National Museum of Prehistory which is 11km from Marnac. The nearby Vezere Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with 147 prehistoric sites and 25 painted caves.

River Cruises
The River Dordogne runs through some beautiful scenery and is best explored on a boat trip. Replica 18th century Gabare boats are used for the boat tours which pass some of the area's beautiful castles.

Places to Visit in Marnac, Dordogne

Chateau de Beynac
One of the many chateaux in the area of the Dordogne, the impressive Chateau de Beynac is reached by a 15 minute walk up from the village, although there is some parking at the top of the hill. The Chateau de Beynac is situated above the village of Beynac and played an important part in the Hundred Years War.

Lascaux Caves
A 40 minute drive from your Marnac holiday rental are the famous Lascaux Caves with their fascinating cave paintings. Even closer are the cave paintings and drawings at Les Eyziers-de-Tayac which date back 30,000 years.

Bergerac
Bergerac is one of the main towns in the Dordogne, a pleasant 39km drive from your Marnac holiday home. Its charming old architecture and river location make it a delightful place to visit. Explore St Jacques Church which looks down on the main square and admire the many statues of the Cyrano de Bergerac.

Spacious secluded property in perfect location with fascinating history. Love this place!

We stumbled across this property while searching through the hundreds on various websites. We are a family of 5 and were looking for something a little bit different among the masses of pricey boutique properties let at a premium. This was perfect! My husband was keen to tell me it used to be owned by an artist! I already knew of Josephine Baker and delighted in telling him she was an 'Artiste' not an artist! We watched a few YouTubes about her life before coming which gave us some history of her life, and significance of the house, the Chateau and the region. The house has 4 bedrooms, 2 of which have a curtain to divide which was fine for the kids. One bedroom is downstairs which we used with an en-suite shower room. The lounge/kitchen/diner is spacious with TV/DVD/wifi. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the bins are down a road opposite the house and it was no issue to wander over or drop the bags off on our way out each day. All thinkable equipment is provided. Hairdryers in rooms too. Towels and linen are available to hire. The gardens are stunning with the historic round houses which once accommodated the guests of Josephine Baker for her performances at the Park opposite. The pool, although unheated, was perfectly ok to use and was refreshing to bomb in to cool off on hot days. Great pool security features with water motion sensor alarm. Phillippe is a lovely gentleman who can speak good enough English to explain everything about the house. He was always available if we needed anything at all. He has provided an extensive categorised collections of tourist information which was very useful for finding places to visit, restaurants and canoe hire places. (Canoe on the Dordogne is a must). The house is at the foot of the Chateau des Milandes (another must) which is a short walk up the drive and even shorter ride if you take a selection of the well maintained bikes that Phillippe also provides. The location of this property is perfect. Off the beaten tourist track but no more than about 15 minute drive to most places of interest. Caves, gardens, Sarlat, La Roque, Castelnaud and canoeing. You can do it all without travelling far at all. There are a couple of supermarkets nearby where prices are reasonable. Worth visiting and making good use of the great BBQ on the terrace. Already miss seeing the sunrise over the picturesque hills in the morning with coffee. We highly recommend this house and would love to return!
