Delightful cozy cottage. Idyllic rural little cottage with glorious views across the valley. We enjoyed the peacefulness of the surroundings. We were blessed with perfect weather - lovely sunny days for September and sunsets were magnificent every night during our one week stay. Nearest little town is Mareuil which we walked to in half an hour. Nice restaurant and bar. We had days out to Brantome which isn’t that far and Angouleme which took 45 mins drive time. All in all a very pleasant stay with a very helpful owner (Julien).

This is such an attractive property in a captivating setting. The extensive grounds are a real bonus, especially with children. The pool is a good size, with a nice deep end that our boys loved to jump into. The house itself is pretty and comfortable, with stunning views. It is an old, quirky house, which we really enjoyed. It is always our preference to have proper old French character, and this house has bundles of character. Layout offers flexibility, with one of the bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor with easier access. It also has decent wifi and, less common in French properties, the benefit of a full range of English TV channels. The back sitting room has a big fireplace with a good wood burner - lovely on the occasional wet or stormy evening! There is a busy-ish road at the end of the little Les Combettes side road, but we were not bothered by road noise - just birdsong and distant church bells - lovely. There are miles of interesting walking paths further up the road, waiting to be explored. Easy 2 minute drive to a small Carrefour, which has all the basics. Lots to see and do in the area, including beautiful Brantôme (which just by itself offers a range of activities such as canoeing, horses, sightseeing), fascinating Grottes de Villars etc. Also within easy driving distance of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (a family favourite!), Riberac, Nontron and more. The big selling point of this property, even more than its lovely setting, is the English couple who own it. Belinda and Michael are very welcoming and helpful and genuinely want you to enjoy your visit. They are keen to sort out teething problems (the property is new to the letting market) and when there were any problems (e.g. when a storm blew down and damaged parasols etc), Michael arrived very quickly to sort things out. We now have very happy memories of a lovely family holiday.
