Make an apartment in Mandelieu-la-Napoule your home away from home

Cuddled up next to Cannes on the western side of the shared airport, Mandelieu-la-Napoule apartments are sited in a town noted for the Chateau de la Napoule. A famous 14th-century castle, it has been remodelled and repurposed several times, until ownership passed to the wealthy American artist, Henry Clews Jr, that is. Today, the castle is a cultural centre owned by La Napoule Art Foundation. Of course, holiday rentals in Mandelieu-la-Napoule are not only convenient for the glitz and glamour of Cannes, but the towering Alpine hinterland of the Alpes-Maritimes. Ski resorts operate just a short drive away during the winter, often when it's warm enough to split the day between the slopes and the beach. Mandelieu-la-Napoule apartments and villas are also close to two golf courses.

Inside, guests will find everything they need for a comfortable and convenient break – washer/dryers and satellite TV make up the basic necessities, while thoughtful furnishings lend a touch of luxury. Outside, private gardens, swimming pools and BBQ areas are a feature in many, and onsite parking means hiring a car is easy. Things to do

Outdoor pursuits: With the excellent golf, mountainous backdrop, abundant marinas, beaches and nightlife, Mandelieu-la-Napoule accommodation couldn't be sited more perfectly for a taste of the 1% lifestyle. From hiking, biking and skiing to swimming and sailing, the active pleasure-seeker will certainly get their fill.

Beaches: The golden-sanded beaches of Cannes are only around three miles from Mandelieu-la-Napoule holiday rentals, but quieter (and nicer) beaches can be found just a little further on around holiday homes in Antibes and Juan-les-Pins. Another option is to head in the other direction for the beaches of Theoule-sur-Mer.

Nightlife: The famous nightlife on the Cote d'Azur is second to none, with the famous casinos, beach bars and restaurants providing top quality food, drink and entertainment at vastly inflated prices. Mandelieu-la-Napoule isn't quite as bad as Cannes when it comes to an outrageous markup, but it's close. By self-catering, however, guests can get that great balance between luxury and practicality.

Shopping: Shopping in Mandelieu-la-Napoule is much more about seeing and being seen than actually buying anything, which should be a relief to bank managers the world over. If guests fancy foraging in the expensive and exclusive boutiques of Cannes, they could consider holiday apartments there. But for souvenirs, the best option is to head inland, far from the well-beaten tourist track.

Culture: The town of Mandelieu-la-Napoule is dominated by the Chateau de la Napoule, the 14th-century castle that's now a monument to the Americans who bought and remodelled it in the early part of the 20th century. Henry Clews Jr, the son of a wealthy New York banker, styled himself a sculptor and painter, and his work is on display throughout the castle. The gardens are particularly beautiful.

Weather in Mandelieu-la-Napoule

Long, hot summers and short, mild winters typify the Mediterranean climate, with summer temperatures usually maxing out at around the 30°C mark. Winters are wetter and milder, with typical highs in the mid-teens. Rainfall is sparse, with clear, sunny days for over 300 days a year. Most of the rainfall occurs during autumn thunderstorms.

Travel to Mandelieu-la-Napoule

Though Mandelieu-la-Napoule does share an airport with Cannes, it's not served by any commercial airlines. Nice Cote d'Azur Airport is the closest major air hub, at 18.5 miles away. Buses are available, as are taxis and hire cars, though the latter option is recommended. Self-drive from the UK and taking the train is also doable. Driving from the UK takes a couple of days, while the train can get to Nice from London in around nine hours.

Lovely Apartment in Perfect location

We stayed 2 weeks at Le Mexico and found it to be everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. The lication is great - restaurants, bars, a supermarket selling everything we needed and a fresh fish shop just across the road. Good train and bus links to all areas along the coast and a 1.5km walk into St Raphael centre for more shops and restaurants. Lovely sandy beach nearby and a pebble beach just along from the harbour. We'd definitely recommend staying at Le Mexico as it's quiet, has a great pool and is close to all amenities.
